Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke on Thursday visited the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, in Abuja, days after securing re-election in the August 15 governorship election. During the meeting, Ademola Adeleke presented his Certificate of Return to Wike, with photographs showing both men holding the document.
The visit came shortly after Adeleke met President Bola Tinubu at the Presidential Villa, where he also presented his Certificate of Return. The sequence of meetings places Adeleke’s post-election engagements firmly in the national political spotlight as he begins preparations for another term in office.
ADELEKE ARRIVES WITH THE ‘PROOF OF VICTORY’
The Certificate of Return presented to Wike was formally issued to Ademola Adeleke by the Independent National Electoral Commission on Wednesday, following his victory in the Osun governorship election. His deputy, Kola Adewusi, also received his certificate during the INEC presentation in Osogbo.
Adeleke was declared the winner after polling 511,067 votes, defeating the All Progressives Congress candidate, Bola Oyebamiji, who recorded 444,815 votes. The result gave Adeleke a margin of 66,252 votes, according to reports on the declared result.
The governor subsequently said his Certificate of Return belonged to the people of Osun State. He also pledged to move forward with governance while calling for unity following the closely contested election. The state government separately announced a ₦500 million relief fund for victims of electoral violence, saying eligible beneficiaries would not be discriminated against based on political affiliation or other factors.
A POLITICAL MEETING AFTER THE ELECTION
Wike’s meeting with Ademola Adeleke is significant because the FCT minister remains one of Nigeria’s most prominent political figures and a major player in national political discussions. The meeting was publicly confirmed through photographs shared by Wike’s media aide, Lere Olayinka, showing Adeleke and Wike together with the Certificate of Return.
The visit also followed Adeleke’s meeting with President Tinubu, during which the governor reportedly thanked the President for allowing the electoral process to proceed without interference. Tinubu, in turn, urged Adeleke to use his victory to promote reconciliation, unity and stability in Osun State rather than treat political opponents as enemies.
