Wahala don land for Aboru area of Lagos after one person reportedly lost his life and two others were rescued when a two-storey building undergoing manual demolition collapsed around midnight. The incident happened at No. 42, Governors Road, Aboru, in Alimosho Local Government Area, with emergency responders rushing to the scene after receiving a distress call.

According to the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), its Alpha Eagle Response Team was dispatched from Cappa, Oshodi, at about 12:56 a.m. after the distress call. When responders arrived, they found workers trapped beneath the rubble and immediately activated the state emergency response operation.
Two adult men were eventually brought out alive from the debris and received first aid from the Lagos State Ambulance Service before being taken to a nearby health facility. But one adult male was recovered dead, turning what should have been a demolition exercise into another painful reminder that building safety no be matter anybody should handle with levity.

The incident has again pushed the issue of building safety into the spotlight. LASEMA urged developers and members of the public to obey building regulations and engage certified professionals for construction and demolition work. It also called on residents to report suspicious or unsafe building activities through Lagos emergency numbers 767 and 112.

In June 2026, at least eight people, including a baby, died while 26 others were rescued after a three-storey building collapsed in the Alakija area of Satellite Town. Experts have repeatedly identified issues such as structural defects, poor supervision, substandard materials and failure to follow approved plans among factors associated with building collapses.
For now, the latest Aboru collapse has left one family mourning while two rescued workers receive medical attention. The authorities say safety rules must be taken seriously, because when building safety turns to “we go manage am,” the result fit become a matter nobody wants to manage.
