He questioned why a Nigerian president should spend vacation abroad when the country still dey battle insecurity and hardship, suggesting that the President should visit places such as Zamfara, Sokoto, Plateau, Kano and other states and spend meaningful time with the people. The Presidency has confirmed that Tinubu began a three-week annual leave in Europe at the end of August, with London as his first stop.
Obi’s claim that Tinubu has not spent three nights anywhere in Nigeria should, however, be treated as a political argument rather than established fact. Available reporting indicates Tinubu has made overnight official visits to states outside Lagos, including Katsina, while Abuja remains the normal seat of presidential government. So the broader criticism is really about the length and depth of presidential engagement with troubled communities, not simply whether the President has ever slept outside Lagos.
The security debate therefore fit become one of the biggest issues of 2027, alongside cost of living, jobs, economic reforms and electoral credibility. Obi has promised a more hands-on style of leadership, while the Tinubu administration continues to defend its economic and security record. With campaigns already gathering momentum, Nigerians now get another political movie where everybody promises to fix Nigeria — but voters will have to decide who gets the keys to the national house.
