Dangote Group Denies Rift with Elumelu, Rejects Funding Allegations

The Dangote Group has firmly dismissed reports suggesting a disagreement between its President, Aliko Dangote, and Tony Elumelu, Chairman of Heirs Holdings. The company also refuted claims that Dangote sought personal financial assistance from associates to fund his refinery project.

In an official statement issued on Sunday, the organisation described the circulating publication as false and misleading, stressing that neither Dangote nor the company made any comments suggesting a fallout or financial appeal. The clarification comes amid growing concerns about the spread of unverified claims online involving prominent business figures.

Dangote Company Refutes Claims of Personal Dispute

The Dangote Group categorically denied the existence of any rift between Dangote and Elumelu, stating that both business leaders continue to maintain a cordial and longstanding relationship. The statement, signed by the Group Chief Branding and Communications Officer, Anthony Chiejina, emphasised that the alleged remarks attributed to Dangote were entirely fabricated.

According to the company, the publication misrepresented both personal and corporate positions, creating a false narrative of tension between two of Nigeria’s most influential entrepreneurs. It reiterated that at no time did Dangote make statements distancing himself from Elumelu or expressing dissatisfaction with their relationship.

The organisation further urged the public to disregard such claims, noting that misinformation of this nature could undermine trust and distort public perception of key business partnerships in the country.

Allegations on Dangote Refinery Financing Dismissed

The company also rejected assertions that the multi-billion-dollar Dangote Petroleum Refinery & Petrochemicals was financed through informal personal loans from business associates. It described such claims as inaccurate and lacking credible evidence.

In its statement, the group maintained that Dangote Group does not engage in personal borrowing from friends to fund large-scale projects. It challenged individuals making such claims to provide verifiable proof, insisting that the financing structure of the refinery project followed formal and transparent channels.

The now-discredited online post had alleged that Dangote approached several prominent figures, including Femi Otedola, Abdulsamad Rabiu, and Mike Adenuga, for financial support during the construction phase. The Dangote Group, however, described the narrative as entirely fabricated and not reflective of reality.

Concerns Over Misinformation and Digital Manipulation

Beyond addressing the immediate claims, the company raised broader concerns about the increasing spread of false information and the misuse of Dangote’s identity in digital content. It warned that the unauthorised use of his name, image, and likeness in artificial intelligence-generated materials poses serious reputational and legal risks.

The statement highlighted a growing trend of manipulated advertisements and fabricated quotes attributed to Dangote Group, cautioning that such actions could amount to fraud. The company called on individuals, organisations, and digital platforms to exercise responsibility and verify information before dissemination.

It further warned that it would not hesitate to take legal action against those found responsible for creating or spreading false narratives, underscoring its commitment to protecting its reputation and that of its leadership.

The Dangote Group’s swift response underscores the importance of accurate reporting and responsible communication, particularly in an era marked by rapid information sharing and digital manipulation. By firmly rejecting the allegations, the company seeks to reaffirm both the integrity of its leadership and the credibility of its operations.
