Rybeena Sparks Debate Over Parenthood in Nigeria: “We Have Vowed Not to Have a Child Here”

Nigerian singer Rybeena has sparked a fresh conversation about parenthood, Nigeria’s living conditions and the country’s future after revealing that he and his wife, content creator and actress Kidbaby, have decided against having a child in Nigeria. Speaking on the Wahala Podcast, the singer reportedly linked the decision to his personal experiences, the economy and what he described as the country’s backwardness compared with other nations.

Rybeena’s comments come as the young artiste continues to build his career in the Nigerian music industry. The singer, whose real name is Adewale Atanda, has remained active in 2026 with releases including “Realize,” “Champion,” “Dantata” and “AMIRI,” while his Mr Bee project received considerable attention in 2025.

Rybeena Questions the Idea of Raising a Child in Nigeria

According to the comments supplied to OGM News NG, Rybeena said his experiences and the state of Nigeria have made him and Kidbaby uncomfortable with the prospect of raising a child in the country. He reportedly pointed to the economy, living conditions and what he considers a problematic social mentality as major reasons behind their decision.

The singer’s argument is less about refusing parenthood altogether and more about questioning the environment in which a child would grow. In his view, having children is not simply about providing food and shelter; it also involves considering education, security, opportunities, social values and the kind of future awaiting the child.

Nigeria’s “Wahala” Meets a Very Personal Family Decision

Rybeena also reportedly compared Nigeria with other countries, arguing that the nation remains far behind despite having some of Africa’s wealthiest individuals. The remark touches on a familiar Nigerian contradiction: a country blessed with enormous human and natural resources, yet one where many citizens continue to complain about infrastructure, economic pressure and limited opportunities.

That contradiction makes the singer’s position particularly provocative. Rybeena and Kidbaby are making a personal family decision, but their reasoning taps into a much larger national conversation about whether young Nigerians should build their futures at home or look abroad for better opportunities. Wahala Podcast, launched in January 2025, has built its identity around candid conversations about relationships, culture, identity and contemporary life, making the platform a fitting setting for such a provocative discussion.

Ultimately, Rybeena’s comments are unlikely to end the argument over whether Nigeria is a suitable place to raise children; if anything, they may add more fuel to it. While some Nigerians may accuse him of abandoning the country mentally, others may argue that wanting better opportunities for future children is perfectly understandable. Whatever side of the debate readers choose, OGM News NG will continue watching for further comments from Rybeena, Kidbaby and others who may join the conversation.
