PDP NEC Endorses Zoning Framework Ahead of National Convention

The National Executive Committee (NEC) of the Peoples Democratic Party has reaffirmed its commitment to the party’s zoning arrangement as the guiding framework for its forthcoming National Convention. The resolution emerged from the 107th NEC meeting held in Abuja, where PDP leaders gathered to deliberate on internal structures, electoral preparedness, and future direction.

In a communiqué issued at the end of the meeting, the committee emphasized that adherence to zoning principles remains central to ensuring fairness, inclusiveness, and balance within the PDP. The statement was jointly signed by the Chairman of the National Caretaker Working Committee, Abdulrahman Mohammed, and the Secretary, Samuel Nnaemeka Anyanwu.

PDP Zoning Principle to Shape National Convention

The NEC underscored that the zoning arrangement would serve as the foundation for allocating national elective offices during the convention. According to the communiqué, this approach aligns with the party’s longstanding philosophy of equitable representation across regions and interests.

PDP leaders noted that the sale of nomination forms for the convention has already commenced, urging all aspirants to strictly comply with established guidelines and timelines. The committee stressed that adherence to these rules would be critical in ensuring a transparent and credible process.

Furthermore, the convention, themed “A Convention of Inclusiveness, Unity and Renewal,” is expected to consolidate internal cohesion while positioning the PDP for upcoming electoral engagements. NEC reiterated its readiness to deliver a well-organized and credible convention through coordinated efforts of its various organs and committees.

Congresses and Membership Drive Receive Commendation

In its review of recent party activities, the NEC ratified the successful conduct of ward, local government, state, and zonal congresses nationwide. Members commended party leaders, electoral panels, and stakeholders for ensuring that the exercises were largely peaceful, transparent, and credible.

The committee also expressed satisfaction with the progress of the ongoing electronic membership registration exercise. It highlighted the importance of building a reliable, technology-driven database to strengthen PDP administration and mobilization efforts ahead of future elections.

NEC called on members across the country to actively participate in the registration process, describing it as essential to deepening internal democracy and improving organizational efficiency.

Call for Unity and Discipline Within PDP Ranks

Reaffirming the supremacy of the PDP, NEC urged members to remain united, disciplined, and committed to collective interests. It emphasized that internal cohesion would be critical in navigating political challenges and achieving electoral success.

The committee also encouraged stakeholders to prioritize dialogue and mutual respect in resolving internal disagreements, noting that unity remains the party’s strongest asset. Leaders stressed that the zoning arrangement and convention preparations should be viewed as opportunities to strengthen inclusiveness and rebuild trust within the party.

With preparations underway, the NEC expressed confidence that the upcoming National Convention would reflect the PDP s core values and reinforce its position in Nigeria’s political landscape.
