NUT Don Ask: Na Lesson We Dey Teach Or Security We Dey Pray For?

NUT don throw one heavy warning wey fit make many school administrators sit up straight for their plastic chairs. As attacks and abductions continue to trouble schools for different parts of Nigeria, the teachers’ union say patience don dey run low. The message be simple: if classrooms no fit remain safe places for learning, School Shutdown fit soon move from threat enter reality. For many teachers and parents, the question no longer be whether danger dey around schools, but when the next incident fit happen.

Insecurity within NUT

The Nigeria Union of Teachers recently condemn attacks on schools, teachers and students, describing the incidents as barbaric and unacceptable. The union talk say schools suppose be centres of learning and hope, not locations where teachers dey check escape routes before checking attendance register. Recent attacks in Oyo State reportedly led to the killing of a teacher and the abduction of dozens of students and educators, creating widespread fear among affected communities.

Because of the situation, some branches of the union don direct teachers to stay away from schools in affected areas until authorities provide stronger security guarantees. Union leaders argue say expecting teachers to teach effectively while worrying about kidnappers is like asking somebody to write WAEC inside a moving commercial bus. The concern, however, remains serious: teachers and students need protection before education can function normally.

Education Under Pressure Say By NUT

The latest incidents also highlight a broader national challenge. Security experts and rights groups have repeatedly warned that attacks on schools can discourage enrolment, increase dropout rates and create long-term educational setbacks. Recent reports indicate that dozens of students were abducted in separate incidents in Oyo and Borno States, renewing fears about school safety across different regions of the country.

Beyond the immediate trauma, communities often react by withdrawing children from school altogether. Some parents begin to question whether education is worth the risk, while teachers face growing anxiety about returning to classrooms. Analysts note that every successful attack on a school sends a message far beyond the affected community, creating fear that spreads across neighbouring states. Meanwhile, authorities continue efforts to rescue victims, arrest suspects and improve security arrangements around vulnerable schools.

For now, NUT maintain say protecting schools must become a national priority. The union’s warning about School Shutdown may sound dramatic, but many teachers argue that education cannot flourish where fear controls the timetable. As government agencies respond and investigations continue, parents, teachers and students will be watching closely. OGM News Pidgin go continue to monitor developments, because nobody wants the next school calendar to come with a security alert attached.
