Mutfwang Blames Buhari’s Administration for Nigeria’s Crude Oil Debt, Says Tinubu Is Paying the Price

Plateau State Governor Caleb Mutfwang has attributed some of the financial challenges facing President Bola Tinubu’s administration to crude oil-related transactions undertaken by the previous government of former President Muhammadu Buhari.

Mutfwang made the claim while discussing the country’s economic situation, arguing that decisions taken during Buhari’s administration have continued to affect Nigeria’s finances under the current government.

According to Mutfwang, the Buhari administration committed portions of Nigeria’s future crude oil production to secure financial arrangements, leaving the Tinubu government with obligations to settle.

He reportedly described the situation as one in which Nigeria’s future crude oil resources had already been committed, forcing the present administration to bear the financial consequences.

The governor’s comments have brought renewed attention to the country’s crude oil-backed financial arrangements and the management of oil revenues under successive administrations.

Tinubu’s Government Faces Questions Over Economic Burden

President Tinubu’s administration has continued to navigate several economic challenges, including revenue constraints, debt obligations and concerns about the country’s oil production and foreign exchange earnings.

Mutfwang’s remarks have also reopened discussions about the extent to which previous government policies influence the economic decisions of succeeding administrations.

However, the specific crude oil transactions referenced by the governor require further clarification, particularly regarding the amounts involved, repayment arrangements and the agreements reached under the previous administration. The governor’s statement has added another dimension to the ongoing debate about Nigeria’s economic management and accountability across successive governments.

As the country continues to address its financial challenges, questions remain about the long-term implications of crude oil-backed agreements and the responsibility of successive administrations in managing national resources.

OGM News NG will continue to monitor developments and official responses concerning Nigeria’s crude oil commitments and public finances.
