Ikeja Customs Tell Smugglers: “Your ₦3.3bn Shopping List Don Don Enter Government Warehouse”

The Federal Operations Unit, Zone ‘A’, of the Nigeria Customs Service in Ikeja has intensified its anti-smuggling operation, intercepting prohibited goods with a reported value of about ₦3.32 billion across the South-West. The operation, according to Customs, also foiled 144 smuggling attempts and resulted in eight arrests.

Customs said officers also intercepted 77 bags of foreign sugar, 21 used vehicles, 3,362 jerrycans of foreign vegetable oil, 20,700 litres of PMS and 915 bales of used clothing. A 20-foot container containing stone-coated aluminium roofing sheets was also among the seized goods.

The operation equally disrupted a consignment of a synthetic cannabis product described by Customs as “Ghanaian loud.” The agency said the wider enforcement drive was aimed at stopping illegal trade and tackling activities that can contribute to insecurity. With the scale of the seizures, smugglers may soon need to update their business plan from “delivery pending” to “case pending.”
