APC Governors Reaffirm Confidence in Uzodimma, Declare Full Support for Tinubu’s 2027 Re-Election Bid

The All Progressives Congress Governors Forum has reaffirmed its confidence in the leadership of its chairman, Hope Uzodimma, while also declaring unwavering support for the re-election ambition of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The endorsement followed a closed-door meeting of governors elected on the platform of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in Abuja, where members moved to dispel reports suggesting internal disagreements within the forum and alleged attempts to replace Uzodimma as chairman.

Speaking after the meeting, the governors insisted that the forum remained united and focused on strengthening the party ahead of future political contests, particularly President Tinubu’s anticipated second-term campaign.

Governors Dismiss Leadership Crisis Rumours

Governor Nasir Idris publicly dismissed rumours surrounding Uzodimma’s alleged removal from office, describing the reports as unfounded and misleading. According to him, the attendance and participation of more than 18 APC governors at the meeting demonstrated that the forum remained solidly behind its leadership.

Idris explained that he personally moved the motion for a vote of confidence in Uzodimma, while Governor Uba Sani seconded it. The motion was subsequently adopted by members of the forum, reinforcing confidence in both the chairman and vice-chairman of the PGF.

He further argued that Uzodimma’s role in presiding over the meeting alongside Uba Sani was sufficient proof that the leadership structure of the forum remained intact. Idris also urged journalists and political commentators to verify information before publication, warning against spreading reports capable of creating unnecessary political tension within the ruling party.

APC Governors Shift Focus to Tinubu’s 2027 Campaign

Addressing journalists after the meeting, Uzodimma stated that the governors were united in their determination to support President Tinubu’s re-election bid. He noted that recent political activities within the party, including the submission of Tinubu’s nomination forms, reflected growing momentum within the APC ahead of the next presidential election cycle.

Uzodimma said the governors would not allow what he described as “fake news” or political distractions to weaken their commitment to the president and the party. According to him, the APC leadership across the states remained convinced that Tinubu’s administration was implementing reforms aimed at repositioning the Nigerian economy.

He also pointed to ongoing infrastructure projects and economic policies introduced by the federal government as evidence that the administration deserved continuity beyond its current tenure. The PGF chairman urged Nigerians to support the president’s programmes and reforms, arguing that additional time in office would enable the administration to consolidate its policies and complete key national projects.

Renewed Unity Within the APC

Political observers believe the latest show of solidarity among APC governors is intended to project unity within the ruling party amid rising political activities ahead of 2027. In recent weeks, speculation over possible disagreements within the PGF had triggered debates about the future direction of the party and its internal power dynamics.

However, the governors’ latest declaration appears aimed at sending a strong message that the APC leadership remains cohesive despite political pressure and public speculation. The endorsement of Uzodimma and Uba Sani also signals continuity within the governors’ forum at a time when political alignments are gradually beginning to take shape across the country.

Analysts note that the early endorsement of President Tinubu’s re-election ambition may further strengthen his influence within the party structure, while also setting the tone for political discussions leading into the 2027 election season.
