Nyesom Wike Turns Political Pressure Into a Full-Time Job, Promises Atiku and Obi No Rest Before 2027

Nyesom Wike Turns Political Pressure Into a Full-Time Job, Promises Atiku and Obi No Rest Before 2027

Federal Capital Territory Minister Nyesom Wike has once again demonstrated that Nigerian politics may soon require its own pressure gauge, declaring that his political mission ahead of the 2027 presidential election is to keep opposition figures Atiku Abubakar and Peter Obi uncomfortable. Speaking in Abuja on Friday, Nyesom Wike said he was not interested in making political opponents feel comfortable, jokingly presenting “high blood pressure” as part of his opposition strategy. His remarks were widely reported after he spoke to journalists during an inspection of FCT projects.

Nyesom Wike Says Political Contest Is Not a Wellness Retreat

Nyesom Wike’s message was simple: politics, in his view, is competition, not a relaxation centre. He said he was unconcerned about how Atiku, Obi and other opposition politicians reacted to his political activities, insisting that his objective was to defeat his opponents rather than help them enjoy a peaceful political season. In classic Wike fashion, the minister turned the metaphorical heat up several degrees, suggesting that he would continue adding political pressure.

The minister’s comments come as the 2027 political contest gathers momentum and rival camps attempt to assemble viable alliances. Wike has repeatedly positioned himself within President Bola Tinubu’s political camp while taking aim at opposition figures. Recent reports also say he predicted a larger “Rainbow Coalition” around Tinubu and interpreted Ademola Adeleke’s recent political engagement with the president as evidence of continuing political realignment.

Opposition Crisis Gives Nyesom Wike More Ammunition

Wike also argued that Nigeria currently lacks a clearly established, formidable opposition party. He pointed specifically to the Peoples Democratic Party, saying that prolonged internal disputes have weakened the party’s ability to function as the country’s leading opposition platform. His argument reflects a broader political reality: opposition parties have faced significant divisions while politicians attempt to build a united challenge ahead of 2027.

For Atiku and Obi, however, the political battlefield remains far from settled. Both remain prominent opposition figures, while the ADC and other emerging political arrangements continue to shape the contest. Wike’s latest remarks therefore appear less like a casual joke and more like another declaration that the 2027 campaign will be fought as much through political pressure and realignment as through conventional electioneering. For now, OGM News NG will keep watching the developing political drama, because if Wike’s promise is anything to go by, the road to 2027 may produce plenty more political fireworks before Nigerians finally get to the ballot box.
