Wadada Earthquake: APC Rivals Crushed as Nasarawa Primary Sparks Political Tension Ahead of 2027

Wadada Earthquake: APC Rivals Crushed as Nasarawa Primary Sparks Political Tension Ahead of 2027

Wadada has become the dominant political conversation in Nasarawa State after Senator Ahmed Wadada secured a sweeping victory in the APC governorship primary election, defeating six other aspirants by a margin that immediately triggered both celebration and controversy within political circles. The scale of the victory has not only strengthened his position ahead of the 2027 governorship election but has also raised new questions about the balance of political power inside the ruling party.

The chairman of the APC Governorship Primary Election Committee, Prof. Theodore Maiyaki, announced in Lafia that Wadada polled 195,285 votes across the state’s 147 electoral wards and 13 local government areas. According to the committee, the process complied with party constitutional guidelines and was conducted transparently. However, the huge difference between Wadada and his closest rivals quickly became the center of political debate across Nasarawa.

APC Primary Ends with Massive Victory for Ahmed Wadada

The APC primary produced results that many observers described as both decisive and politically symbolic. Former Inspector-General of Police Mohammed Adamu, widely regarded before the election as one of the strongest contenders, secured 39,675 votes, far below Wadada’s total. Other aspirants recorded significantly lower figures, including Prof. Mohamed Sani-Haruna with 5,844 votes, Dr Hassan Liman with 863 votes, Dr Zakka Yakubu with 336 votes, Dr Fatima Abdullahi-Adamu with 246 votes, and Tanimu Adabson with only 65 votes.

Within APC circles, supporters of Wadada described the outcome as evidence of strong grassroots support and expanding political influence across Nasarawa State. Critics, however, argued that the numbers reflected the harsh realities of modern Nigerian party politics, where political structures, alliances, and strategic endorsements often determine outcomes long before ballots are counted. The election result has now intensified conversations about whether the APC primary was simply a democratic exercise or a demonstration of overwhelming political control.

Nasarawa APC Members Hand 2027 Ticket to Wadada

The Wadada victory arrives at a time when political competition within major Nigerian parties has become increasingly intense ahead of the 2027 election cycle. Across several states, governorship primaries have already started exposing internal rivalries, factional battles, and negotiations over succession plans. In Nasarawa State, political analysts believe the APC may now focus on consolidating unity among disappointed aspirants to avoid internal fractures before the general election.

The emergence of Wadada also highlights the growing importance of legislative figures transitioning into executive ambitions within Nigerian politics. As a serving senator representing Nasarawa West Senatorial District, Wadada has built visibility through both legislative activities and political networking. Analysts say his overwhelming primary victory may strengthen the APC’s confidence going into the governorship race, but it could equally motivate opposition parties to intensify coalition efforts against what they may now see as an increasingly dominant political machine.

For now, the APC leadership appears eager to project the primary as proof of internal democracy and organizational strength. Yet the conversations unfolding across Nasarawa suggest the political battle may only just be beginning. OGM News Nigeria understands that attention will now shift toward possible defections, alliance negotiations, and early campaign positioning as the state gradually moves closer to the 2027 governorship election
