Dr. Iziaq Salako Warns: “Nigeria Will Not Let Foreign Agencies Dictate Its Health Policies”

Dr. Iziaq Salako restated Nigeria’s firm commitment to building a digital, people-centred health ecosystem as he addressed world leaders at the 2025 HIMSS Eurasia HealthTech Conference in Antalya, Turkey. He emphasised that the nation’s health reforms are now anchored on innovation, efficiency, and equitable access for all Nigerians.

Dr. Iziaq Salako explained that digital health has become a strategic pillar under the Federal Government’s Health Sector Renewal Initiative, a framework designed to modernise healthcare delivery and strengthen the national health infrastructure. He noted that Nigeria’s demographic strength, rising technological adoption, and health sector gaps make digital transformation a necessity rather than an option.

Dr. Iziaq Salako stressed that the government is actively investing in telemedicine, electronic health information systems, emergency response technology, and data-driven decision-making tools. These interventions, he said, are positioning the country to transition from traditional, reactive healthcare to a smarter, preventive, and patient-empowering health system.

Dr. Iziaq Salako highlighted key achievements the nation has recorded under ongoing reforms, including the deployment of electronic medical records across federal hospitals and the expansion of digital birth registration systems. He said these advancements are already improving transparency, efficiency, and service delivery across the health sector.

Dr. Iziaq Salako noted that Nigeria is also strengthening its health security architecture through early-warning surveillance systems designed to improve outbreak detection and pandemic preparedness. He emphasised that by integrating global best practices with local innovation, Nigeria is building a stronger and more resilient system capable of responding rapidly to emerging threats.

Dr. Iziaq Salako reiterated that bridging urban-rural healthcare gaps remains a top priority for the administration. He explained that digital technologies—such as mobile diagnostic tools, AI-enhanced testing platforms, and expanded telehealth services—will be instrumental in reaching underserved and remote communities.

Dr. Iziaq Salako Calls for Stronger Global Collaboration in HealthTech Advancement

Dr. Iziaq Salako urged international partners to deepen their engagement with Nigeria, emphasising that sustainable digital health transformation requires shared expertise, stronger funding partnerships, and coordinated innovation exchanges. He stressed that global collaboration is essential to achieving equitable health outcomes.

Dr. Iziaq explained that Nigeria is not merely seeking international support but positioning itself as a strategic continental hub for scalable HealthTech solutions. He highlighted the country’s growing technology workforce, improving digital infrastructure, and expanding innovation ecosystem as major strengths for global partnership.

Dr. Iziaq concluded by reaffirming Nigeria’s long-term vision to create a resilient, digitally enhanced health system accessible to every citizen. He called on global leaders to join hands with Nigeria in driving systemic transformation that prioritises people, technology, and sustainable progress.
