Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos State will on Wednesday, October 8, 2025, unveil a newly completed 420-unit housing estate in Ajara, Badagry. The Lagos State Housing Estate, Ajara Phase 1, is the latest addition to the state’s growing portfolio of model housing projects, designed to address Lagos’ persistent housing deficit.
According to the Lagos State Commissioner for Housing, Hon. Moruf Akinderu-Fatai, the estate comprises one-bedroom, two-bedroom, and three-bedroom apartments, collectively expected to provide quality accommodation for over 2,000 residents. He stated that the initiative is part of Governor Sanwo-Olu’s commitment to expanding affordable housing options and ensuring that all ongoing housing projects across the state are completed.
Sanwo-Olu: Governor’s Vision for Affordable and Quality Housing
Hon. Akinderu-Fatai emphasized that the Ajara Phase 1 Housing Estate represents another milestone in Governor Sanwo-Olu’s “Greater Lagos Rising” agenda, which prioritizes urban development and inclusive growth. He explained that the administration’s vision is not just to build houses but to create communities that foster economic activities and improve living standards for residents.
“The Governor’s determination to complete all housing projects inherited or initiated under his administration has yielded results such as this,” the Commissioner said. “The Ajara project stands as a symbol of progress and commitment to providing quality and affordable shelter for Lagosians.”
He noted that beyond housing provision, the project would stimulate the local economy through construction-related employment, small business opportunities, and improved infrastructure in the Badagry axis.
Ministry Warns Against Fraudulent Agents
As part of the preparations for the commissioning, Hon. Akinderu-Fatai extended gratitude to prospective homeowners for their patience and faith in the government. He urged interested applicants to process their housing applications directly through the Estate Department of the Ministry of Housing at Block 3, The Secretariat, Alausa, Ikeja.
The Commissioner warned the public against dealing with unauthorized individuals posing as agents, stressing that the Ministry does not employ intermediaries in the sale or allocation of its housing units. “We urge all interested subscribers to be vigilant and conduct all transactions directly with the Ministry to avoid falling victim to scammers,” he cautioned.
The Ajara Phase 1 Housing Estate commissioning is expected to attract dignitaries, housing stakeholders, and community leaders as Lagos continues to pursue its goal of creating sustainable and affordable housing solutions for its growing population.
