Governor Uba Sani of Kaduna State has urged voters across the North-West to reciprocate what he described as the benefits of President Bola Tinubu’s administration by supporting the President’s re-election bid in 2027. The governor made the appeal on Saturday through his Special Adviser on Politics, Abubakar Muhammad Mamadi, during the inauguration of the “Relax, Tinubu Is Fixing Nigeria” support group covering the seven North-West states.
From Development Projects to Election Arithmetic
According to Sani’s position, the North-West has benefited significantly from federal interventions in agriculture, education, youth empowerment and women’s development. The governor has also previously credited Tinubu with supporting major projects in Kaduna, including road construction and the proposed Kaduna Light Rail project.
The political mathematics, however, appears straightforward: government projects go in, votes are expected to come out. In July, Sani reportedly went even further by suggesting that Kaduna should reward Tinubu with as much as 98 per cent of its votes in 2027, turning the traditional language of political support into something resembling an electoral invoice.
When Projects Meet the Ballot Box
Governor Sani argument comes as preparations for the 2027 political contest increasingly move from ordinary party mobilisation into a battle over who can claim credit for development. Recent federal projects in Kaduna include the reconstruction of the Kaduna–Birnin Gwari road and major proposed infrastructure investments, which Sani has repeatedly presented as evidence of the administration’s support for the state.
Still, the satire writes itself: Nigerian voters may soon find themselves being reminded that roads, railways, schools and other public projects have apparently joined the campaign team. Whether voters interpret such developments as genuine benefits deserving electoral support—or as government responsibilities that should not come with a political receipt—will ultimately be decided at the ballot box.
The message from Kaduna is therefore clear, while the political suspense is only beginning: Governor Uba Sani wants the North-West to reciprocate Tinubu’s administration with votes in 2027. Whether that proposed exchange produces the expected political returns remains a question to watch as Nigeria moves closer to another major election.
