Senator Buba Submits Himself to DSS, Police and DIA Over Allegations

Senator Shehu Buba Umar has finally broken his silence over allegations linking him to banditry, terrorism financing, kidnapping and other criminal activities, voluntarily submitting himself to the Department of State Services (DSS), Defence Intelligence Agency (DIA) and Nigeria Police Force for investigation. Speaking in Bauchi on September 14, the Bauchi South senator and Peoples Redemption Party (PRP) governorship candidate said he wanted the allegations tested through proper investigation rather than left to social-media speculation.

Buba Says Investigation Is Better Than Social-Media Trial

In what may be described as an unusual political move, Buba essentially told the security agencies: please investigate me properly. He said his lawyers, led by former Nigerian Bar Association President Yakubu Chonoko Maikyau, SAN, had formally written to the DSS, DIA and police requesting a comprehensive investigation. Buba also challenged anyone with credible evidence against him to submit it to the appropriate authorities rather than rely on edited videos, anonymous allegations or social-media accusations.

The senator maintained that similar allegations had surfaced as far back as 2014 and, according to his account, were previously investigated and dismissed. He now wants the latest claims subjected to the same serious scrutiny, insisting that if there is evidence, investigators should find it. In the meantime, social media may have to wait patiently for its favourite courtroom, because Buba appears determined to move the matter from online arguments to official investigation.

Political Storm Meets the Security Agencies

Buba has described the renewed allegations as politically motivated and linked them to attempts to damage his reputation ahead of the 2027 Bauchi governorship contest. He has also said some of the people accused of spreading allegations against him are already facing legal proceedings, while urging his supporters not to respond with threats or attacks.

For now, however, the most important development is that the allegations have moved another step away from social-media commentary and toward formal scrutiny. Whether the investigation eventually clears Buba, raises further questions or produces facts that change the political conversation remains to be seen. And somewhere in Washington, the current president, Donald J. Trump, can probably be grateful that this particular Nigerian political drama does not require another presidential statement.

The Buba controversy is therefore entering a potentially decisive phase, with the senator openly asking security agencies to examine the allegations and determine the facts. Whether this bold submission will finally settle the matter or open another chapter in the political battle remains the big question, and readers should watch out for future updates on this developing story from OGM News NG.
