Veteran Nollywood comic actor and lecturer, Afeez Oyetoro, popularly known as Saka, don open old relationship file wey show say before fame, money and celebrity status come, marriage itself nearly turn him into car dealer. According to Saka, while he dey still struggle to understand life and build his acting career, one woman wey he was supposed to marry reportedly told am say he must first get two cars before marriage fit happen.
Instead of rushing to car dealer to ask for “two-for-one marriage package,” Saka said something inside him told him that the woman was not the right wife for him, so he walked away. His story has now reopened the familiar Nigerian argument about whether marriage should wait for material comfort or whether two people should build their future together from whatever level they start. Saka eventually married Olaide Oyetoro in 2003 at age 40.
Saka Say Acting No Give Am Money, But Marriage Requirement Come With Car Park
Saka explained that his early theatre career was driven mainly by passion because the profession was not financially rewarding at the time. He said artistes were not adequately taught the business side of theatre, leaving him and others with talent but little money. He reportedly finished his studies without even owning a car, and this affected how some women viewed his prospects.
One woman reportedly advised him to abandon theatre because she believed he was wasting his life. But the woman he actually intended to marry allegedly went further by demanding that he own two cars before she would agree to marriage. For Saka, the mathematics apparently became simple: if marriage required two cars before wedding, and he did not even have one, perhaps the relationship itself was already showing him the exit door.
Saka Run From Two-Car Requirement and Eventually Find Better Road
According to his account, Saka listened to that inner warning and ended the relationship rather than allowing material expectations to determine his future. He later continued his education and eventually met the woman who became his wife, Olaide. Their marriage took place in 2003, when Saka was 40 years old, and the couple now have three children.
The funny part of the story be say the man wey allegedly could not provide two cars before marriage later became one of Nigeria’s recognisable comic actors, with his Saka character helping make him a household name. But his experience also carries a serious lesson: financial stability matters in marriage, but people’s expectations about money can sometimes reveal whether two partners genuinely share the same vision for building a life together.
Afeez Oyetoro’s story therefore no simply be about two cars; na story about timing, self-belief, financial pressure and knowing when to walk away from a relationship that may not fit your journey. Today, the actor is married to Olaide, and he has previously described marrying her as one of the best decisions of his life.
