President Bola Tinubu has returned to Nigeria after about four weeks in Europe, describing his vacation as enjoyable while dismissing concerns about his health.
Bola Tinubu spoke briefly with journalists on Tuesday evening after arriving at the Presidential Wing of the Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos at about 6:22 p.m. He said he was “healthy, sound, and ready to go,” adding that there was nothing wrong with him.
President Bola Tinubu Says He Enjoyed His Vacation
Asked how his extended stay in Europe went, President Bola Tinubu responded simply: “I enjoyed myself. Fantastic.” His European stay began in London before he proceeded to Paris, where he combined his vacation with several official engagements.
During his time in France, Tinubu met French President Emmanuel Macron, business leaders and other prominent figures. He also witnessed the signing of an agreement involving the Ogun State Government and DP World concerning a proposed deep-sea port and economic zone.
President Dismisses Health Concerns
Responding to questions about concerns surrounding his health during his prolonged stay outside Nigeria, Tinubu said political rumours would continue to emerge.
“Rumour will always be emanating from politics, but the facts remain: I’m here. Healthy, sound, and ready to go,” the President said. He added: “Ready to kick, ready to walk. There’s nothing wrong.”
The Presidency had previously described Tinubu’s trip as a working vacation and said he remained in contact with officials and continued directing government affairs while abroad.
Tinubu Welcomed Back in Lagos
Tinubu was received in Lagos by senior political and government officials, including Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, Speaker of the House of Representatives Tajudeen Abbas, Deputy Senate President Jibrin Barau and other officials.
The President’s return comes ahead of Nigeria’s Independence Day celebrations on October 1. The Presidency said Tinubu is expected to attend a film premiere honouring the late MKO Abiola at the Wole Soyinka National Theatre and hold strategic meetings while in Lagos.
For Nigerians who had been following the President’s extended absence from the country, Tinubu’s brief airport appearance provided his own response to the speculation: he says he is back, healthy and ready to resume his duties.
