Ogun 2027: Abiodun Checks Daniel’s Political GPS, Adebutu Appears on the Map. The political temperature in Ogun State has risen another notch ahead of the 2027 general elections, as Governor Dapo Abiodun and his predecessor, Senator Gbenga Daniel, continue their increasingly public disagreement over political loyalty and future alliances. The latest spark reportedly came after Abiodun accused Daniel of drifting away from the mainstream of the All Progressives Congress (APC) through what he described as stylish support for Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship hopeful Ladi Adebutu.
Daniel’s loyalists, however, have rejected the suggestion that their political family has abandoned him, arguing that Adebutu remains connected to the political structure associated with the former governor. In Nigerian political language, this is the point where everybody says there is “no problem” while producing enough political statements to prove that there is, indeed, a very serious problem.

The latest disagreement comes against the background of a much broader Abiodun-Daniel confrontation that has intensified since 2026. Their dispute has already spilled into the contest for the Ogun East senatorial ticket, after APC stakeholders endorsed Abiodun while Daniel moved to secure the party’s nomination to retain his Senate seat. Daniel subsequently criticised the consensus arrangement and called for a proper primary.
Abiodun, meanwhile, has accused Daniel of being ungrateful, recalling his alleged role in helping Daniel return to the APC and secure the senatorial ticket in 2023. Daniel’s camp has disputed the governor’s narrative and maintained that the political process should not be reduced to personal loyalty. The argument has therefore developed into something resembling a political family reunion where everybody remembers the family history differently.
Ogun 2027: Political Loyalty Becomes More Valuable Than Fuel as Camps Trade Fire
The appearance of Ladi Adebutu in the latest disagreement is significant because the PDP figure remains a major opposition name in Ogun politics. Reports have identified Adebutu as a likely PDP contender for the 2027 governorship race, while the APC has moved toward Senator Solomon Adeola, popularly known as Yayi, as its governorship candidate.
Daniel himself recently avoided declaring a definite winner between Adebutu and Adeola, saying that only God knows who will become Ogun’s next governor. That response has naturally left political observers wondering whether the former governor is simply keeping his options open or refusing to reveal which political card he intends to play.
For now, Abiodun’s accusation and the reaction from Daniel’s loyalists have ensured that the Ogun political theatre remains firmly open. The central question is no longer merely who supports whom, but whether old political relationships can survive the increasingly fierce calculations of 2027.
