I’m Not for Sale, Kwankwaso Declares After Kano Governor’s Exit from NNPP

Former presidential candidate of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) and national leader of the Kwankwasiyya Movement, Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, has dismissed speculations about his political loyalty, insisting that he remains firmly committed to his ideals and is not motivated by personal gain. His declaration followed the resignation of Kano State Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, and several other elected officials from the NNPP, a development that has reshaped the political landscape in the state.

Kwankwaso made the remarks on Friday at his residence in Kano while addressing supporters, shortly after reports emerged that the governor, along with some local government chairmen, members of the House of Representatives, and political aides, had exited the party.

Kwankwaso Reaffirms Political Convictions

In his address, Kwankwaso stressed that his decades-long involvement in politics has been driven by a commitment to the welfare of ordinary Nigerians rather than material or personal benefits. He stated unequivocally that his principles could not be bought, noting that his political journey had often involved sacrifice rather than comfort.

According to him, choosing personal gain would have meant abandoning his long-held beliefs and aligning with more convenient political platforms. He maintained that his continued presence among grassroots supporters was evidence of his dedication to a cause built on values, not opportunism.

Kwankwaso further explained that the Kwankwasiyya Movement has endured because of a shared vision for social justice and inclusive governance. He said the loyalty of his supporters was rooted in collective ideals rather than financial inducements.

Reaction to Kano Governor’s Exit and Political Realignment

The former governor’s comments came amid heightened political tension in Kano State following the reported resignation of Governor Abba Yusuf and other NNPP stakeholders. While Kwankwaso did not directly criticise those who left the party, he acknowledged that recent events underscored the fragility of political alliances.

He warned that there were forces determined to dismantle the structures and reforms built over years of political engagement in the state. According to him, the unfolding developments should serve as a wake-up call for his supporters to remain vigilant and focused.

Kwankwaso described the situation in Kano as a critical moment that required careful planning and unity among those who believe in the movement’s objectives.

Call for Early Mobilisation Ahead of 2027

Looking ahead, Kwankwaso urged members of the Kwankwasiyya Movement to begin early mobilisation in preparation for the 2027 general elections. He cautioned against complacency, stressing that political success requires sustained effort, organisation, and sacrifice.

He praised supporters who had remained steadfast despite challenges, encouraging them not to relent in their pursuit of political change. Kwankwaso expressed confidence that perseverance would eventually yield results, reaffirming his resolve to continue advocating for policies that protect the interests of ordinary Nigerians.

Concluding his remarks, he reiterated his commitment to opposing exploitation and inequality, assuring supporters that he would not compromise with individuals or groups he believes undermine the welfare of the masses.
