Bauchi State Governor Bala Mohammed has called for the integration of Arabic education into Nigeria’s formal education system, arguing that graduates of Arabic-speaking universities should enjoy the same recognition and opportunities as graduates of other higher institutions.

The governor made the appeal while receiving a delegation of Nigerian students studying at universities in Saudi Arabia during a courtesy visit to the Government House in Bauchi. His remarks have reignited discussions about educational inclusion, curriculum reform and the place of Arabic education in Nigeria’s academic framework.

Bala Mohammed Advocates Equal Opportunities for Arabic Education Graduates

Governor Bala Mohammed expressed concern over what he described as the gradual decline of Northern Nigeria’s rich Arabic educational heritage, noting that the region has maintained strong educational, religious and cultural ties with the Arab world for generations.
According to the governor, integrating Arabic education into Nigeria’s national education system would ensure that graduates of Arabic-speaking universities receive equal recognition and employment opportunities alongside graduates from conventional institutions. He argued that such a move would strengthen the country’s educational landscape while promoting inclusiveness.
Mohammed added that Arabic education has played a significant role in shaping scholarship and intellectual development in Northern Nigeria and deserves greater institutional support.

Governor Pledges to Revive Alkaleri Arabic College

As part of his administration’s commitment to preserving Arabic education, Bala Mohammed reaffirmed plans to revive the abandoned Arabic College in Alkaleri. He said restoring the institution would expand access to quality Arabic education and help preserve the region’s educational legacy for future generations. The governor also encouraged students studying abroad to return home after completing their education and contribute meaningfully to the development of Bauchi State and Nigeria through the knowledge and skills they acquire.

Saudi-Based Students Commend Governor’s Support

The delegation was led by Dr. Shuaibu Idris, Director of the Centre for Sunnah Studies in Africa, who said the visit was intended to appreciate Governor Mohammed’s continued investment in education and to brief him on the Centre’s activities, particularly its support for Bauchi students studying in Saudi Arabia.
The students thanked the governor for his encouragement and pledged to use the knowledge, experience and values gained during their studies to contribute to national development upon their return to Nigeria.
