Residents of Kebbe town in Kebbe Local Government Area of Sokoto State don enter another round of fear after suspected bandits reportedly demand ₦40 million from the community, with threat say dem go attack the town and burn properties if the money no land within seven days. The bandits allegedly first give the community five days to raise the money before extending the deadline to seven days after appeals from residents. The phone reportedly used for the communication was later handed over to security officials, while the criminals allegedly insist say the line must remain reachable.

The police confirmed the attack and said reinforcements were deployed, although some reported casualty figures could not initially be independently confirmed.
Days later, Ungushi community inside the same local government area suffered another deadly attack, with police confirming that 28 people were killed. The Nigerian Army subsequently said its leadership had visited the area and adjusted its security arrangements to tackle threats around Kebbe and neighbouring communities.
As the reported seven-day deadline dey approach, Kebbe residents now find themselves facing a situation where criminals allegedly want to turn community safety into a cash transaction.
