Political activist Aisha Yesufu has called on Nigerians to financially support Peter Obi’s 2027 presidential ambition, insisting that the responsibility of funding the campaign should not rest on the former Labour Party presidential candidate alone. In a fresh fundraising appeal shared in a video on Wednesday, November 4, 2026, Yesufu urged supporters to contribute whatever they could afford, even if it was just one naira. Apparently, the message is that if Nigerians want to take ownership of their political future, they must also be prepared to take ownership of the campaign’s expenses. After all, political transformation, like many other ambitious Nigerian projects, apparently needs somebody to pay the bills.
YESUFU SAYS OBI CANNOT BE THE CAMPAIGN’S PERSONAL BANK
Yesufu argued that Nigerians who genuinely desire change must demonstrate their commitment through financial contributions rather than expecting Obi to carry the entire financial burden. She maintained that citizens should not simply demand national transformation while leaving one politician to finance the activities required to pursue that ambition. According to her, even the smallest contributions could collectively make a significant difference. Her message was straightforward: Nigerians cannot keep shouting that they want to rescue the country while expecting Peter Obi to rescue the campaign account single-handedly.
The activist recalled the 2023 presidential election, explaining that Obi had initially been reluctant to accept public donations for his campaign. However, she said she encouraged the fundraising arrangement because financial contributions would make supporters feel more involved in the political process. Yesufu also maintained that the previous fundraising exercise was accounted for despite criticism from some quarters. She insisted that she would maintain the same standard of accountability in 2027. In other words, Nigerians are being invited to contribute, but the organisers are also being reminded that public money comes with public expectations.
CAMPAIGN DONATIONS SEPARATE FROM PARTY FUNDING AS TRANSPARENCY PROMISE EMERGES
Yesufu further clarified that the fundraising initiative was specifically intended to support citizens’ activities for Obi’s presidential campaign and was separate from the political party’s financial arrangements. She explained that the party would publish its own account details for people interested in making direct donations to the party. This distinction is important because supporters must understand where their contributions are going rather than mistakenly sending campaign donations to a different political account. Apparently, even in politics, money needs the correct destination before it begins its journey.
She also promised to account for every donation received, repeating her assurance that she had accounted for the contributions made during the 2023 election. The activist said she would provide the necessary financial records and remain accountable for every amount received in the new fundraising exercise. Her appeal could become an important test of how much financial commitment Obi’s supporters are willing to demonstrate ahead of the 2027 presidential election. However, the real challenge will not simply be how much money Nigerians donate, but whether the organisers can maintain public confidence through consistent disclosure, proper documentation and transparent spending.
Aisha Yesufu’s fundraising appeal has introduced another important dimension to Peter Obi’s 2027 political ambition, placing financial participation and public accountability at the centre of the campaign conversation. While supporters may welcome the opportunity to contribute directly, the initiative also raises expectations about how donations will be managed and reported. Nigerians are now being invited to put their money where their political convictions are, but the organisers must remember that public trust is not raised through fundraising appeals alone. It must also be earned through transparency. Watch out for further developments as OGM News NG continues to follow the unfolding political story.
