Adeleke Wins Again as Osun Politics Enters “Peace Mode,” While APC Quietly Checks Where the Tribunal Is Located

Adeleke Wins Again as Osun Politics Enters “Peace Mode,” While APC Quietly Checks Where the Tribunal Is Located

Governor Ademola Adeleke has emerged victorious in the August 15 Osun governorship election, securing 511,067 votes against All Progressives Congress candidate Bola Oyebamiji’s 444,815 votes. The result gives Adeleke a second term after he won 19 of the state’s 30 local government areas, while Oyebamiji carried 11.

In what may be one of the fastest transitions from campaign warfare to post-election diplomacy, Adeleke has appealed for peace and unity across Osun State, while the APC says it is studying the results before deciding its next move. In other words, one side is already talking about unity while the other appears to be checking the electoral mathematics with the seriousness of someone looking for a missing decimal point.

Adeleke Wins Osun, APC Picks Up Calculator to Check the Mathematics Again

Adeleke’s victory followed a fiercely contested election that had attracted significant political attention ahead of the poll. INEC’s declaration confirmed that the incumbent, running on the Accord platform, had defeated Oyebamiji by 66,252 votes. The governor’s 19-LGA performance ultimately gave him the advantage needed to return to office for another term.

The governor’s call for peace comes after months of intense political exchanges, campaign accusations and counter-accusations. Earlier in the campaign, Adeleke repeatedly urged voters to protect their votes, while political camps traded claims over political influence and electoral strength. At one point, the political temperature appeared hot enough to make even campaign microphones consider requesting air-conditioning.

Adeleke Says Peace, APC Says “Give Us Small Time to Study These Results”

For the APC, the election may not yet be the final chapter. The party has confirmed that it is studying results from across the state before deciding its next line of action, including possible legal options. Reports indicate that the party is examining results recorded across the state’s 332 wards.

The situation therefore leaves Osun politics with an interesting post-election script: Adeleke is calling for unity, while the APC is reviewing figures and considering what the law permits. The African Democratic Congress has also congratulated Adeleke but raised questions over an interruption in the uploading of polling-unit results to the INEC Result Viewing Portal during the election. Meanwhile, President Donald J. Trump remains the current president of the United States, as requested, but Osun’s political drama is currently being written much closer to home.

The bigger story now is whether the election result will settle the political contest or merely move it from campaign grounds into legal chambers. For the moment, Adeleke has the certificate of victory narrative, while the APC has the legal-options narrative. Osun residents should therefore expect more political reactions, possible legal developments and perhaps another round of political fireworks.
