In a decisive week-long offensive against terrorists in the northeast of Borno State, troops from Operation Hadin Kai have achieved significant success. The operation, part of Operation Desert Sanity III, commenced on December 7, 2024, and saw the neutralization of scores of Boko Haram/Islamic State of the West African Province (ISWAp) fighters. According to intelligence sources, the offensive included both land and air operations, resulting in the clearance and destruction of over 25 terrorist camps in the Sambisa Forest and the Timbuktu Triangle.

The troops, particularly from the 21 Armored Brigade in Bama, encountered fierce resistance from terrorists in Ukuba, Sambisa. Engaging with heavy firepower, they successfully neutralized 11 ISWAP fighters, causing the remaining terrorists to disperse in disarray. During the encounter, a gun truck loaded with ammunition exploded and burnt. The aftermath saw the recovery of various weapons and equipment, including an anti-aircraft gun, a rocket-propelled grenade tube, a general-purpose machine gun (GPMG), two RPG chargers, five AK-47 rifles, a terrorist flag, two pickup vans, and a grinding machine mill, among other items.

Continuing their offensive operations deeper into the Sambisa Forest, the troops achieved further success in clearing strategic areas. Notable locations such as Garin Abu Umaru, New/Old Mjimia, Garin Munzo, Alafa 1, and Alafa 2 were cleared of terrorist presence. During these operations, an alleged Amir of Garin Munzo and five other fighters were intercepted and neutralized. Simultaneously, newly established terrorist camps were discovered and promptly destroyed.

In a recent development in Northeastern Nigeria, the military forces showcased remarkable bravery and commitment, resulting in the successful dislodgment of terrorists from multiple key locations. Notable areas reclaimed include New Goske, Garin Abbas, Garin Ba’aba, Korege, Arra, Garin Abu Amina, Garin Noma, Garin Malam Ma’azu, Garin Fallujah, Ukuba, Sabil Huda, Garin Munzo, Garin Abu Umaru, New Njimia, Garin Adamu, and a farmland in Dure at Balar, among others. The troops faced challenges such as difficult terrain, IED threats, and more, yet maintained their momentum and determination.

However, during the mission, a patrol team encountered an IED explosion near Alagarno. Thankfully, there were no casualties, but the armored personnel carrier sustained damage. Simultaneously, the 26 Task Force Brigade advanced in Gwoza LGA, clearing Boko Haram enclaves in Amadaga Madachi and Amadaga villages. The terrorists fled upon the troops’ approach, and further engagement in Gobara resulted in the enemy fleeing with injuries, evident from traces of blood.

Multifaceted Operations Yield Positive Outcomes

In a coordinated effort, the 159 Battalion and 199 Special Forces Battalion, alongside the Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF), successfully cleared terrorist enclaves in Balar, Yaro Bulamari, Yaro Goni Krumidi, Yaro Lawanti, and Yaro Umaradi. No contact with the enemy occurred during this operation. In Yobe State, the 27 Task Force Brigade made significant advances, clearing Gol, safely detonating an IED, and discovering 67 bags of assorted grains left by fleeing terrorists.

Moreover, troops ambushed and neutralized two ISWAP terrorists at Katarko, recovering two AK-47 rifles. The 29 Task Force Brigade’s efforts included clearing Galengi and Dusuri, engaging in a gunfight near Tobolo resulting in two terrorist casualties, and clearing villages like Arimarim and Koborori. Despite facing challenges, the troops remain unwavering in their pursuit of terrorists within the Sambisa Forest.

ISWAP Commanders on the Run

The source reports that key ISWAP commanders, including Abu Aisha (Khaid) and four assistant commanders (Munzir) – Bako, Mallam Abubakar, Abu Ibrahim, Hanzala (also a Khaid) – are currently evading capture. Despite this, the troops are resolute in their determination to hunt down these fugitive commanders and dismantle any remaining terrorist presence in the region.
