Osogbo–Iwo–Ibadan Road — OGM News NG | For residents and motorists travelling between Osogbo, Iwo and Ibadan, the Osogbo–Iwo–Ibadan Road has become more than a transportation route; it has been a prolonged test of patience, vehicle suspension systems and human endurance. Now, the Federal Government, through the Ministry of Works under Minister David Umahi, is pushing ahead with another reconstruction intervention, raising hopes that a road associated with years of frustration could finally receive the attention it deserves.
The latest development, involving the use of Continuously Reinforced Concrete Pavement (CRCP) technology and the engagement of Peculiar Ultimate Concerns Limited, is particularly significant. According to the project update supplied to OGM News NG, construction activities are progressing from both ends of the route. If sustained, this could represent an important infrastructure breakthrough for communities and businesses across Osun and Oyo states. However, Nigerians have witnessed enough abandoned projects and ceremonial flag-offs to know that promises must eventually become completed roads.
Osogbo–Iwo–Ibadan Road: A Road That Has Tested the Patience of Generations
The Osogbo–Iwo–Ibadan corridor has endured years of deterioration, making transportation between the two states unnecessarily difficult. For motorists, commercial drivers, traders and ordinary commuters, travelling along the route has often meant navigating damaged sections, enduring delays and spending additional money on vehicle maintenance.
The irony is that this is not an insignificant rural pathway. It is an important economic connection linking communities, markets and commercial centres across southwestern Nigeria. A properly reconstructed road could improve the movement of agricultural produce, reduce transportation costs, strengthen trade and create opportunities for businesses. After years of suffering, residents are understandably entitled to ask why such an important route had to wait so long for meaningful intervention.
Umahi’s Concrete Solution: A New Road or Another Political Achievement?
Osogbo–Iwo–Ibadan Road — OGM News NG | Under David Umahi, the Federal Ministry of Works has increasingly promoted concrete pavement technology as an alternative to conventional asphalt construction. The Osogbo–Iwo–Ibadan project is among the federal road interventions designated for Continuously Reinforced Concrete Pavement (CRCP), a construction method that uses continuous steel reinforcement within concrete pavement to improve structural performance and manage cracking.
According to the Federal Ministry of Works’ May 2026 announcement, the federal contract awarded to Peculiar Ultimate Concerns Limited for the Osogbo–Iwo–Ibadan Road Project was valued at approximately ₦114.85 billion and covered 73 kilometres. The ministry also identified CRCP as the technology intended for the project. This is a substantial public investment, and Nigerians have every reason to expect rigorous supervision, transparent expenditure and timely delivery. A concrete road should not become a concrete excuse for endless contract variations, delayed completion or inflated project costs.
Beyond the Flag-Off Ceremony: Nigerians Want Results, Not Roadside Speeches
Osogbo–Iwo–Ibadan Road — OGM News NG | The reported progress from both ends of the project is encouraging, and it deserves recognition if the construction activities continue as described. But Nigeria’s infrastructure problem has never been limited to the absence of groundbreaking ceremonies. The country has witnessed projects launched with elaborate speeches, political photographs and impressive promises, only for the machinery to disappear once public attention moves elsewhere.
This is why the Federal Government must ensure that the project is properly monitored, with clear construction milestones, independent quality assessments and publicly accessible completion targets. The contractor must deliver value for money, while the Ministry of Works must provide regular progress reports. Residents should not have to wait another generation to enjoy the benefits of a road that is being reconstructed today. Government achievements should ultimately be measured by what citizens can use, not by what politicians can announce.
The reconstruction of the Osogbo–Iwo–Ibadan Road could become a welcome infrastructure achievement for Oyo and Osun states, particularly if the reported construction progress translates into a durable, fully completed road. After years of hardship, residents deserve more than another political success story; they deserve a reliable transportation corridor. While the use of CRCP technology and the reported progress offer reasons for cautious optimism, the real victory will come when motorists can travel the entire route without treating every pothole as an unexpected examination. OGM News NG will continue to monitor the project, its funding, construction progress and eventual delivery. Until then, Nigerians should keep their expectations high, their vehicle mechanics on standby and their eyes firmly on the project.
