Ogun State APC don enter another round of political gbas-gbos as the party officially disown Abayomi Semako Hunye’s claim say na him be the party’s governorship candidate for the 2027 election. The party insist say Senator Solomon Olamilekan Adeola, popularly known as Yayi, remain the recognised APC candidate, while Hunye’s declaration no get authorisation from the party.
The latest development come just days after Hunye tell supporters say he still dey inside the race and say the process wey produce Yayi dey court. Hunye also unveil Abayomi Odunowo as his preferred running mate and insist say he no withdraw from the contest. So, while one political camp dey shout “candidate,” the other one don bring party statement come answer: “Which candidate?”
APC Say Yayi Na the Candidate, Hunye Claim No Get Party Blessing
According to the APC, Yayi emerged from the party’s governorship primary held in May 2026 after reportedly scoring 304,055 votes, while Hunye was recorded with zero vote. The party has continued to maintain that the primary produced Adeola as its candidate for the January 2027 Ogun governorship election.
But Hunye no gree make the matter rest for political dustbin. He has challenged the primary process in court, alleging irregularities and questioning how he could receive zero votes despite having supporters across Ogun State. He recently told supporters that the legal battle was still alive and that he remained in the race.
Suspension Matter Enter the Political Pot
The latest APC statement adds another serious layer: the party says Hunye was suspended on April 7, 2026, following a petition from his Tube Ward in Ipokia Local Government Area. According to the party, the suspension passed through ward and local-government structures before the Ogun State Working Committee approved it. APC therefore argues that Hunye does not have the standing to represent the party.
For political observers, the drama now get two different battlefields — party recognition and courtroom challenge. APC says its position is settled and Yayi remains the candidate, while Hunye says the process that produced Yayi is being challenged. In other words, the political referee don blow one whistle, but one of the players don carry the matter enter another pitch.
As the 2027 Ogun governorship race dey gather speed, this APC internal fight fit become one of the stories wey go determine how the party enters the election. For now, Yayi remains the candidate recognised by APC, while Hunye continues to pursue his challenge. OGM News NG go keep eyes on the court, the party and the next political move — because for this Ogun political movie, the end credits never near.
