Governor Ademola Adeleke has indicated that he will not be reaching out to his All Progressives Congress (APC) challenger, Bola Oyebamiji, following the conclusion of the 2026 Osun State governorship election. The development comes after Adeleke was declared winner of the August 15 poll, securing a second term on the Accord Party platform. According to the latest reports, Adeleke polled 511,067 votes, defeating Oyebamiji, who recorded 444,815 votes.
Adeleke Draws the Line After Victory, Says No Need to Reach Out to Oyebamiji
The decision not to reach out comes after months of fierce political competition between Adeleke and Oyebamiji. During the campaign, both men projected confidence in their respective chances, with Oyebamiji repeatedly insisting that the APC had the grassroots strength to defeat the incumbent, while Adeleke maintained that his administration had earned the support of Osun voters.
In the world of politics, where congratulations can sometimes arrive faster than official results, Adeleke’s position adds another layer to an already dramatic contest. The governor had previously accused the APC camp of pursuing strategies he considered anti-democratic, while Oyebamiji presented himself as a serious alternative to the incumbent administration.
Adeleke Wins Osun, But Apparently Loses Interest in Making That Phone Call
Adeleke’s latest position is particularly notable because the two politicians had occasionally been praised for maintaining a degree of political maturity despite the intensity of the campaign. A July report, for instance, noted that Adeleke and Oyebamiji had been commended for displaying statesmanship during public engagements amid the heated election atmosphere.
But with the ballots counted and Adeleke declared victorious, the political temperature has changed. The governor now appears more interested in celebrating the mandate he says Osun voters gave him than in opening a post-election diplomatic hotline to his principal challenger. In satirical terms, the congratulatory phone call may simply have been placed on political “do not disturb.”
The Osun election has therefore produced not only a winner but another chapter in the state’s increasingly colourful political rivalry. Adeleke’s victory gives him a second-term mandate, while Oyebamiji and the APC will have to assess the result and determine their next political steps. With the election behind them but the political season far from over, OGM News NG will be watching closely for further developments.
