Sokoto APC Criticises Tambuwal, Praises Aliyu’s Grassroots Drive, Welcomes PDP Defectors

The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Tambuwal Local Government Area of Sokoto State has taken a critical stance against former governor and senator, Aminu Tambuwal, accusing him of neglecting his home constituency during his tenure in office. At the same time, the party commended the administration of Governor Ahmed Aliyu for what it described as visible and people-focused development across the local government.

The position was made public during an APC stakeholders’ meeting in Tambuwal, where party leaders highlighted ongoing projects, appointments, and empowerment programmes as evidence of a renewed emphasis on grassroots governance. The meeting also served as a platform for formally receiving defectors from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), signalling shifting political alignments ahead of future elections.

APC Faults Tambuwal’s Record, Dismisses Coalition Politics

Speaking at the gathering, the APC chairman in Tambuwal Local Government Area, Isa Achida, criticised Senator Tambuwal for what he described as a failure to prioritise his home community while in power. According to Achida, residents of Tambuwal did not feel the expected impact of governance during the former governor’s administration.

Achida also took aim at Tambuwal’s reported involvement in a political coalition, describing it as a regrouping of familiar political actors rather than a genuine alternative. He characterised the coalition as lacking fresh ideas or leadership, arguing that it represented a continuation of past political practices that had not delivered meaningful progress to the state.

Urging young people in the area to remain aligned with the APC, Achida advised against supporting what he called recycled political movements. He maintained that Governor Ahmed Aliyu had, within a relatively short period, delivered more tangible benefits to Tambuwal than previous administrations, particularly in community-level development.

Development Claims and Expansion of Education Infrastructure

Several speakers at the meeting highlighted specific achievements of the current state administration in Tambuwal Local Government Area. The Chairman of the local government, Naigari Tambuwal, represented by the Speaker of the Council, Nasiru Jabo, pledged the council’s commitment to improving on its previous electoral performance and sustaining collaboration with the state government.

The Commissioner for Higher Education, Prof. Ala, disclosed that the state government had approved the construction of no fewer than three mega schools in Tambuwal. He said the initiative was aimed at expanding access to education and reducing pressure on existing facilities, particularly at the basic and secondary levels.

In addition, party leaders cited improvements in infrastructure, healthcare, water supply, and power as indicators of a broader development strategy across Sokoto State. They argued that these interventions had strengthened public confidence in the APC-led administration and reinforced its support base at the grassroots.

Defections, Appointments, and 2027 Outlook

A major highlight of the meeting was the formal reception of defectors from the PDP, including three former councillors. Achida attributed their defection to what he described as the governor’s visible developmental strides in Tambuwal and assured them of equal rights and opportunities within the APC. He encouraged the new members to mobilise support in their respective communities ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The Chief of Staff to the Governor, Aminu Dikko, praised party youths in Tambuwal for their organisation and loyalty, while commending Governor Aliyu for justifying the confidence placed in him by APC leader, Senator Aliyu Wamakko. Dikko disclosed that 83 indigenes of Tambuwal Local Government had been appointed to various political positions, including commissioners, special advisers, permanent secretaries, and board members.

He further revealed that more than 8,300 residents of the local government had benefited from state-sponsored financial support programmes, with each beneficiary receiving a minimum of ₦100,000. Responding to speculation about his own political ambitions, Dikko dismissed such claims, stating that any future role would depend solely on the directive of party leadership.

Efforts to obtain a response from Senator Tambuwal were unsuccessful, as calls to his line were not answered as of the time of filing this report. However, the PDP spokesperson in Sokoto State, Hassan Sanyinnawal, said the party would respond to the APC’s claims at an appropriate time.
