Marafa Dismisses Claims of Return to APC, Describes Report as False and Misleading

Former Senator representing Zamfara Central Senatorial District, Kabir Garba Marafa, has firmly denied reports claiming that he has returned to the All Progressives Congress (APC), describing the information as false, baseless, and deliberately misleading. He urged Nigerians to disregard the report in its entirety, stressing that he has not rejoined the ruling party nor made any declaration to that effect.

The claim, which circulated via an online news platform, alleged that Marafa had re-entered the APC alongside his supporters. However, the former lawmaker, through his media office, said the publication was riddled with inaccuracies and amounted to sponsored propaganda designed to confuse the public and damage his reputation.

Denial of Alleged APC Return

In a statement issued on Thursday by the Director-General (New Media) of the Media Office of Marafa, Mansur Haruna, the former senator categorically refuted the report, insisting that no such return had taken place. According to the statement, Marafa has maintained his position since formally resigning from the APC and has not made any move to align with the party again.

Haruna explained that Marafa officially exited the APC on August 28, 2025, alongside thousands of his supporters across the 14 local government areas of Zamfara State. At the time of his resignation, Marafa openly accused the party of sidelining and abandoning him and his political base after benefiting from their support.

The media office emphasized that since that resignation, there has been no declaration—formal or informal—by Marafa or any of his associates indicating a return to the APC or membership of any other political party.

Marafa Media Office Faults Factual Errors

Beyond denying the claim of a return to the APC, the statement also faulted the report for what it described as fundamental factual errors. Haruna noted that the publication wrongly identified Marafa as a former member of the House of Representatives, a claim he described as incorrect and easily avoidable.

“Senator Kabir Garba Marafa, OFR, CON (Marafan Gusau), is a former Senator of the Federal Republic of Nigeria who proudly represented Zamfara Central Senatorial District from 2011 to 2019,” the statement clarified, stressing that his legislative record is well documented and publicly accessible.

The media office further debunked claims suggesting that Marafa hails from Sokoto State, insisting that he is a bona fide indigene of Zamfara State. According to the statement, this fact is well known and easily verifiable, making the error particularly troubling for a professional news platform.

Warning Against Speculation and Misinformation

The statement also dismissed as fictitious an allegation that Kabir Garba defected to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in 2018, describing it as entirely false and lacking any historical or documentary basis. Haruna said such claims were products of political mischief rather than factual reporting.

For clarity, the media office reiterated that Kabir Garba’s only officially communicated political decision in recent times was his resignation from the APC in August 2025. Any future political alignment, the statement said, would be transparently announced by the former senator himself.

Haruna concluded by urging media organisations to uphold professionalism, accuracy, and responsibility in political reporting. He also called on the public, party members, and supporters to disregard the report and rely only on verified information from credible sources.
