The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has officially recognised Sadiq Dasin as the Interim Chairman of its Adamawa State chapter following weeks of internal wrangling that threatened to paralyse the party’s structure in the state.
Reports had emerged of a leadership crisis involving three rival figures claiming interim chairmanship of the ADC in Adamawa. The division reportedly aligned loyalists of former Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Babachir Lawal, against supporters of Senator Aishatu Binani, while the incumbent chairman, Shehu Yohanna, maintained that he remained the substantive leader of the party.
In an attempt to restore order, the ADC’s National Working Committee (NWC) affirmed its earlier decision empowering interim leadership structures across states, endorsing the process that produced Dasin as consistent with the party’s approved guidelines.
ADC National Headquarters Clarifies Position
Addressing the situation in a statement on Wednesday, the ADC’s National Publicity Secretary, Bolaji Abdullahi, confirmed that the party’s headquarters had taken note of the growing division in the Adamawa State chapter.
“It has come to the notice of the national headquarters of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) that there appears to be a growing division in the ranks of the party leadership in Adamawa State,” Abdullahi stated. He explained that the NWC, at its meeting of October 8, 2025, had authorised the formation of interim executive committees to oversee the party’s affairs pending further reorganisation.
According to him, the party’s leadership considered the October 25, 2025, process — supervised by the National Vice Chairman for the North East — as valid, producing Sadiq Dasin as the legitimate interim chairman of the ADC in Adamawa State.
Call for Unity and Discipline Among Members
The party urged all members to embrace reconciliation and desist from actions capable of undermining the ADC’s unity in the state. Abdullahi advised those involved in parallel leadership structures to “have a rethink and follow the path of peace.”
He also called on the newly recognised chairman, Dasin, to reach out to aggrieved members and ensure that all concerns are addressed in the spirit of fairness and inclusion.
“The party would like to restate its commitment to fairness and justice to all members,” the statement added. “However, the party will not tolerate any act of indiscipline that could jeopardise ongoing efforts to build a strong and truly democratic organisation.”
The development marks the latest effort by the ADC’s national leadership to stabilise its state chapters ahead of future political engagements.
