ADC Suspends South-South Vice Chairman Usani Over Alleged Breach of Party Constitution

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has suspended its National Vice Chairman (South-South), Dr. Usani Uguru Usani, over alleged violations of the party’s constitution and acts considered detrimental to its unity and electoral integrity.

The suspension followed resolutions reached at the meeting of the State Working Committee (SWC) of the Cross River State chapter held on Wednesday, October 15, 2025. In a statement released in Abuja by the State Publicity Secretary, Hon. James Otudor, the decision was attributed to multiple petitions accusing Dr. Usani of anti-party activities, insubordination, and conduct capable of undermining the ADC’s public image and internal cohesion.

Otudor explained that the suspension would remain in effect pending the conclusion of a formal investigation by the party’s disciplinary organs in accordance with the provisions of the ADC constitution. He emphasized that the move was not punitive but a necessary step to preserve order and accountability within the party.

Controversy Over Appointment and Alleged Disloyalty to ADC

In the same statement, the Cross River SWC raised concerns over the appointment of Ms. Jackie Wayas as Deputy National Publicity Secretary, describing her emergence as an imposition on the state chapter without proper consultation. The committee alleged that Ms. Wayas had failed to engage the state leadership since her appointment and had not demonstrated loyalty to the unity and progress of the ADC in Cross River.

The SWC urged the national leadership to review Ms. Wayas’ appointment and replace her with what it described as a “competent, credible, and media-savvy” representative from the state—someone with a proven commitment to the ideals and principles of the party. The committee maintained that inclusivity and local consultation were central to sustaining confidence and integrity in the ADC’s leadership structure.

Coalition Members Warned Against Dual Allegiances

The Cross River chapter further expressed concern over the activities of some members of the Coalition Movement who had publicly declared for the ADC but failed to formalize their membership. According to the SWC, several of these individuals continue to hold positions in their former political parties while participating in ADC strategy sessions, a situation the committee said could not be tolerated.

The ADC directed all coalition leaders and intending members to regularize their registration at the ward level within seven days, ending October 25, 2025, or risk exclusion from leadership and decision-making processes. The statement reaffirmed the chapter’s loyalty to the national leadership and its readiness to provide credible, people-focused governance alternatives within the South-South region.

“We urge all members to remain calm, law-abiding, and steadfast as the ADC’s internal mechanisms for discipline, justice, and accountability take their full course,” the statement concluded.
