Aliko Dangote to Nigerians: Buy Made-in-Nigeria Goods to Create Jobs and Strengthen the Economy

Africa’s richest man, Aliko Dangote, has called on Nigerians to embrace homegrown products and services as a collective step toward building a stronger, self-sustaining economy. Speaking on Saturday during a media tour of the Dangote Petroleum Refinery, led by Reno Omokri—former Special Adviser to ex-President Goodluck Jonathan and promoter of the GrowNairaBuyNaija initiative—Dangote emphasized that national prosperity depends on citizens’ willingness to support locally made goods.

Aliko Dangote to Nigeria: Patronise Local Products for Economic Growth

According to Dangote, Nigeria’s economic stability and industrial growth can only be achieved when citizens deliberately choose to buy and use Nigerian-made products. He noted that the nation’s dependence on imports continues to weaken the Naira and discourage local producers, whereas consistent patronage of indigenous goods will spur industrial expansion, boost manufacturing capacity, and create millions of jobs.

Dangote stressed that local businesses—big or small—rely heavily on consumer confidence and support. “We have the responsibility to grow Nigeria by buying made-in-Nigeria goods. Every product we import means we are exporting jobs and weakening our economy,” he said. The business magnate further appealed to policymakers to encourage production and consumption of domestic products through supportive fiscal and trade policies.

Buy Made-in-Nigeria Goods to Create Jobs and Build National Wealth

Dangote highlighted that the Dangote Refinery stands as a testament to Nigeria’s capacity for large-scale industrial development. He explained that if citizens and industries alike consistently support local producers, Nigeria could reduce its unemployment rate drastically, retain wealth within its borders, and become a regional manufacturing hub.

“Job creation does not happen by chance—it is driven by local enterprise and national pride,” he added. The billionaire entrepreneur expressed optimism that initiatives such as GrowNairaBuyNaija would inspire a cultural shift toward valuing Nigerian products and services. He reaffirmed his commitment to supporting ventures that align with Nigeria’s industrialisation goals and sustainable economic development.

Aliko Dangote to Nigeria: Building a Future of Self-Reliance

Dangote reiterated that a strong economy begins with self-reliance and confidence in domestic capabilities. He urged Nigerians to take pride in the quality of local goods, from textiles and technology to petroleum and agriculture. “We have the human capital, we have the resources, and we have the potential. What we need now is the mindset to believe that made-in-Nigeria can compete globally,” he concluded.

By choosing Nigerian-made goods, he said, citizens are not just making a purchase—they are making an investment in their nation’s future.
