Festus Keyamo, Nigeria’s Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, has officially unveiled the Isaac Balami Aeronautic and Management University in Abuja — the first aeronautic and management university in Africa. The historic unveiling marks a major stride in advancing Nigeria’s aviation and educational infrastructure. Speaking at the event, Keyamo emphasized that the institution represents a fusion of innovation, education, and industrial growth tailored to meet global aviation standards.
The university, named after Isaac Balami, a renowned Nigerian aviator and entrepreneur, is designed to bridge the gap between theoretical knowledge and practical aeronautical expertise. It aims to produce highly skilled professionals who will lead Africa’s aviation revolution. Keyamo described the initiative as “a bold demonstration of Nigeria’s readiness to take its place as a continental leader in aerospace development and management excellence.”
Built in line with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, the institution embodies the government’s commitment to empowering the private sector to drive industrial transformation. The Aviation Minister stressed that education remains a cornerstone of Tinubu’s vision for national progress, especially in high-value sectors like aviation, technology, and logistics.

The university’s curriculum will integrate management sciences, aviation engineering, and modern logistics studies to ensure students acquire both technical proficiency and administrative expertise. This dual focus, according to Keyamo, will help Nigeria produce a new generation of aviation leaders who can compete globally while driving domestic innovation.
He added that the government’s role is to create an enabling environment for such private-sector-led educational institutions to thrive. With Nigeria’s growing aviation market and expanding air connectivity across Africa, Keyamo expressed optimism that the new university will serve as a hub for regional cooperation and talent development.

Balami, who is also an aircraft engineer and the founder of 7Star Global Hangar, said the university will focus on producing industry-ready graduates equipped to meet global aviation standards. The unveiling ceremony attracted stakeholders from across Africa’s aviation ecosystem, including government representatives, airline executives, educators, and investors.
