NDLEA Arrests Two Drug Kingpins, Seizes Cocaine, Heroin, Meth in Lagos

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has arrested two suspected drug kingpins in Lagos following weeks of intelligence and surveillance on their activities. The Special Operations Unit (SOU) of the agency apprehended 64-year-old Victor Nwosa, who posed as a textile merchant, and 49-year-old Felix Chika Obiegbu, a businessman known for wine distribution.

Investigations revealed that both men were deeply involved in illicit drug trafficking while maintaining appearances as legitimate businessmen. Nwosa was arrested on September 17 at his Okota residence, where 4.33 kilograms of heroin and 448 grams of cocaine were recovered. A day earlier, operatives had apprehended Obiegbu at his Surulere home, where 2.9 kilograms of methamphetamine were seized.

According to NDLEA officials, the suspects were preparing their consignments for export to Europe and other destinations before their arrest. The successful operation followed months of coordinated surveillance aimed at dismantling their networks.

Drug Shipments to Terrorists and Bandits Intercepted

Beyond Lagos, NDLEA operatives also disrupted attempts to supply illicit drugs to insurgents and bandits in Borno and Yobe states. On September 27, 26-year-old Baba Kaka Ibrahim was arrested in Borno while driving a Mercedes Benz GLK with 39,380 pills of tramadol and exol-5 concealed in the engine compartment.

That same day in Yobe, officers intercepted Halima Adamu, who was caught transporting 39 parcels of Colorado, a potent strain of synthetic cannabis, weighing 1.4kg. A swift follow-up operation led to the arrest of another suspect, Habiba Muhammad, in Maiduguri. NDLEA said both cases underscored the growing link between drug trafficking and insecurity in the country’s North-East.

Further seizures were recorded in Kano, Bayelsa, Kaduna, Gombe, and Abuja, with multiple suspects apprehended for trafficking opioids, skunk, and methamphetamine.

Large Cannabis Farms Destroyed in Edo

In Edo State, NDLEA officers destroyed over 24,146 kilograms of cannabis sativa (skunk) cultivated on nearly 10 hectares of farmland. The operations took place in Uromi forest, Esan West Local Government Area, and Ogu forest in Igueben LGA. In both raids, suspects were arrested, and large quantities of already processed cannabis were evacuated.

Additionally, a truck conveying 82 bags of skunk weighing 1,025kg concealed in charcoal sacks was intercepted along the Wareke–Auchi road. Two suspects were taken into custody in connection with the seizure.

The agency noted that such large-scale destruction of plantations and interception of processed drugs were key to cutting off supply chains and dismantling organized criminal groups profiting from narcotics.

NDLEA Reaffirms Commitment to National Security

Speaking after the series of operations, NDLEA Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, Brigadier General Mohamed Buba Marwa (Rtd.), commended the officers involved. He emphasized the agency’s balanced approach to combating drug abuse and trafficking through enforcement and public sensitization.

“The success of these nationwide operations underscores our commitment to safeguarding Nigeria from illicit substances that threaten public health and national security,” Marwa said. “Every gram of drugs seized represents a step toward protecting our youths, disrupting criminal networks, and strengthening the nation’s stability.”

Alongside the arrests and seizures, NDLEA continued its War Against Drug Abuse (WADA) campaign across the country, engaging schools, religious institutions, workplaces, and traditional leaders in advocacy and awareness drives.
