Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has pledged to work in unity with the State House of Assembly to rebuild confidence, restore stability, and accelerate the state’s socio-economic growth following six months of emergency rule.
In a statewide broadcast, Governor Fubara described the period of emergency as one of the most trying times for Rivers State. He explained that his choice not to challenge the presidential declaration was guided by a conviction that “no sacrifice is too great for peace.” He emphasized that the responsibility now lies with leaders to put aside personal differences and pursue the collective good.
Acknowledging the role of President Bola Tinubu, who intervened to restore democratic governance, Fubara expressed gratitude for what he described as a “fatherly intervention.” He equally recognized the contributions of former Governor Nyesom Wike, the Senate President, the Speaker of the House of Representatives, and other stakeholders who worked to sustain peace.
Governor Fubara Reassurance to Supporters and Call for Unity
Governor Fubara directly addressed concerns raised by his supporters, assuring them that “not everything is irretrievably lost” and that opportunities remain for progress. Stressing that “the costly peace is cheaper than the cheapest war,” he reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to resuming development projects that were suspended during the emergency period.
He assured the people of Rivers State that his government would work inclusively, prioritizing the prosperity of all residents rather than political divides. The governor further praised the resilience and patience of citizens, noting their peaceful conduct and prayers during the difficult months.
Renewed Partnership with the House of Assembly
The governor Fubara highlighted the importance of maintaining a strong and cooperative relationship with the State House of Assembly, pledging to work hand-in-hand to advance the interests of Rivers people. He commended the Speaker and Assembly members for their role in stabilizing the state and vowed to ensure continuous dialogue and collaboration.
Fubara concluded his address by calling on all citizens, regardless of political, religious, or ethnic affiliation, to unite in rebuilding Rivers State. He urged stakeholders to safeguard the peace achieved and channel collective energy towards building a state defined by dignity, stability, and progress.
