Fubara Hails Tinubu’s Intervention in Rivers Crisis, Assures Reconciliation with Wike

Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has attributed the relative calm and restoration of governance in the state to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s timely intervention in the face of escalating political tensions. Speaking during a gathering of leaders and stakeholders of the Simplified Movement in Port Harcourt on Thursday, the governor expressed deep gratitude to the president for what he described as a life-saving mediation effort.

Fubara recalled how the state was on the brink of anarchy following a prolonged political crisis that threatened both the executive and legislative arms of government. “If not for Mr. President, the story today would have been different,” he declared, while commending Tinubu’s wisdom and decisive action. “I don’t know how he gets his information, but the truth is that he acted with wisdom at the right time.”

He urged his supporters and the people of Rivers to show appreciation to the president for stepping in when it mattered most. According to Fubara, “It is because of him that democracy still stands strong in Rivers State. His intervention averted a complete breakdown of order and salvaged our dear state.”

Peace Process Underway, Institutions Set for Restoration

Governor Fubara assured that peace and reconciliation efforts are already bearing fruit, with plans to reinstate all affected institutions well underway. He stated that both the executive and legislative arms of government would soon resume normal operations as mutual trust is gradually being rebuilt.

“I want to assure you that the issues will soon be resolved, and you will come back to your offices—not just at the executive arm, but also the legislative arm,” Fubara said. He emphasized the importance of forgiveness and collaboration to ensure the smooth return of governance structures.

The governor maintained that his administration remains focused on the larger goal of development and democratic consolidation. He promised that once stability is fully restored, his government would resume delivering the dividends of democracy to the people. “What is important is for us to have a forgiving spirit and work together for the good and progress of the State,” he added.

Forgiveness and Unity: Key to Moving Forward

Fubara appealed to all aggrieved parties to embrace forgiveness and unity, stressing that the interest of Rivers State must come before personal ambitions. He acknowledged that some individuals may have felt sidelined or offended during the crisis but assured that every action taken was aimed at preserving peace and ensuring the long-term welfare of the state.

“People have a right to be angry, but the time has come for reconciliation,” he said. “We must all come down from our high horses and subject ourselves to the peace process. The interest of the state is paramount.”

The governor further emphasized that a united front is essential for sustainable development, adding that only through peaceful coexistence can Rivers reach its full potential. He thanked stakeholders across Nigeria who contributed to brokering peace, saying their support helped guide the state back from the edge of political collapse.

No Reason Peace Shouldn’t Return — Fubara on Wike

Governor Fubara also addressed speculations surrounding his relationship with his predecessor and current Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Chief Nyesom Wike. Speaking candidly, he expressed optimism that reconciliation between the two political leaders is inevitable and already in motion.

“There is no reason why there will not be peace between me and my Oga,” Fubara said, referring to Wike. “There will be peace. We are meeting. We will reconcile.” He disclosed that several meetings, including those held at the FCT Minister’s residence, have taken place since President Tinubu’s intervention.

Fubara made it clear that his intention has never been to fight, but to build and sustain peace. He acknowledged Wike’s contributions to the state and signaled his readiness to put the past behind them in the interest of Rivers people. “This is not about me. It is about Rivers State,” he stressed.

Governance Will Bounce Back Stronger, Says Governor

In spite of the political crisis, Governor Fubara remains optimistic about the future of Rivers State. He assured citizens that his administration would emerge from the turbulence stronger, more focused, and ready to deliver on its mandate. Although the two-year anniversary was marred by the crisis, he promised that developmental projects and achievements would soon be unveiled.

He said the administration had made notable progress in key sectors but refrained from showcasing them during the anniversary out of respect for the prevailing political climate. “We will bounce back, and we will do so stronger,” he assured.

Fubara reiterated his commitment to democratic values, good governance, and peaceful leadership. He concluded with a renewed promise to serve all Rivers people with sincerity and dedication, calling on every stakeholder to work together for a brighter future
