The Rivers State Government has raised alarm over a wave of fraudulent announcements being circulated across various social media platforms, falsely attributed to the Office of the Secretary to the State Government (SSG). In a press release issued on Tuesday, the state government described the information as entirely fabricated, malicious, and intended to mislead the public and cause unnecessary panic.
According to the government, these false statements are part of a calculated attempt by mischief-makers to destabilize the peace and progress currently being enjoyed in the Rivers state. The government emphasized that the public should not be misled by such content, which lacks any connection to official communication channels or legitimate sources within the state administration.
Fake Claims Involve Governor and Deputy Governor
One of the fake announcements gaining traction on social media falsely claims that His Excellency, Sir Siminalayi Fubara, GSSRS, the suspended Governor of Rivers State, and the Deputy Governor, Prof. Mrs. Ngozi Nma Odu, were invited to a meeting scheduled to hold at the Government House on Friday, April 18, 2025. The false report insinuated that this meeting was ordered by unnamed authorities, creating tension among residents and political observers.
The Rivers State Government has unequivocally dismissed this information, stating that no such meeting was planned or communicated by the government. Officials described the content as entirely fictitious, fabricated to sow confusion and divert attention from the real issues facing the state.
