Security Reset: Senate Questions Rehabilitation Programme For Repentant Terrorists

Senator Abdulaziz Yar’Adua reportedly presented a motion highlighting the growing danger facing communities and security personnel, calling for urgent measures to tackle the crisis.
During the debate, Senator Joseph Ikpea introduced an additional proposal asking the Federal Government to stop the rehabilitation and reintegration programme for repentant Boko Haram members. The proposal received support from Senator Adams Oshiomhole, who argued that the country must reconsider the policy because of ongoing security challenges.
The Senate later adopted the proposal through a voice vote, showing the position of the lawmakers that the programme requires serious review. However, the resolution remains a recommendation and does not automatically cancel the programme, as final decisions rest with the executive and relevant authorities.
