Rotimi Amaechi, former Rivers State Governor and African Democratic Congress (ADC) vice-presidential candidate has issued a strong warning to Nigerians ahead of the 2027 presidential election, urging voters to reject President Bola Tinubu at the polls.

Amaechi, who is running alongside ADC presidential candidate Atiku Abubakar, reportedly warned that Nigerians risk deeper poverty if they vote to retain the Tinubu administration. His remarks come as opposition parties intensify their campaigns and seek to capitalize on concerns over the cost of living and economic hardship.

Amaechi Attacks Tinubu’s Economic Policies

Speaking during his recent political engagements in Rivers State, Amaechi criticized the economic policies of the Tinubu administration, particularly the removal of fuel subsidies and the impact of higher electricity costs.

He argued that the policies had increased the financial burden on ordinary Nigerians, pointing to rising transportation and food costs. Amaechi also claimed that his personal electricity bill had risen from about ₦500,000 to ₦4 million, while promising that an Atiku-led government would restore electricity subsidies.

Amaechi became Atiku’s running mate after contesting the ADC presidential primary and finishing behind the former vice-president. The ADC formally announced him as its vice-presidential candidate in June, describing the ticket as a combination of experience and national reach.

The opposition party has expressed confidence that the Atiku-Amaechi ticket can challenge Tinubu in 2027. Its national publicity secretary, Bolaji Abdullahi, previously described the combination as a formidable team capable of defeating the incumbent.
