Obi Seeks Broad Opposition Alliance to Confront Nigeria’s Deepening Challenges

A former presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has called for a united opposition front to address Nigeria’s mounting economic and security concerns, warning that the country is at a critical juncture that demands coordinated action beyond political rhetoric.

In a statement released on Tuesday, Obi highlighted worsening insecurity, rising unemployment, economic hardship, and declining public trust as urgent issues requiring collective leadership. His appeal comes amid renewed political realignments within opposition ranks, which many observers see as early groundwork for the 2027 general elections.

Growing Calls for Opposition Unity

Obi’s remarks follow the recent defection of former Kano State governor and presidential candidate, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, to the African Democratic Congress (ADC). The move, formalised in Kano, drew the presence of prominent political figures, including the party’s National Chairman, David Mark, alongside other influential opposition leaders.

The development is widely interpreted as a significant boost for the ADC and part of broader efforts to consolidate opposition forces.
