Kebbi ADC Alleges Malami's Prosecution Is Politically Motivated

The political temperature in Kebbi State rose another notch on Saturday after the African Democratic Congress (ADC) declared that the investigation and prosecution of its governorship candidate and former Attorney-General of the Federation, Abubakar Malami (SAN), are politically motivated. In a strongly worded statement, the party insisted that the legal battle is less about justice and more about politics, accusing the ruling APC of turning state institutions into campaign rehearsal grounds ahead of the 2027 general elections.

While anti-graft agencies continue to insist that all investigations are guided strictly by available evidence and due process regardless of political affiliation, the ADC argues that Malami’s case reflects a broader pattern of intimidation against opposition figures. As the matter remains before the courts, Nigeria’s political class appears to be preparing for another long season where legal arguments and political speeches compete for the spotlight.

ADC Sees Politics Behind the Prosecution

According to the Kebbi State chapter of the ADC, the prosecution of Malami represents what it described as a calculated effort to weaken opposition voices before voters head to the polls in 2027. Party leaders argued that although they support lawful investigations, they believe the timing and manner of the case raise serious political questions.

In true Nigerian political fashion, the satirical interpretation is that election campaigns now seem to begin with court filings before campaign posters. While politicians traditionally unveil manifestos, critics joke that legal teams have become the newest campaign managers. The ADC insists that no amount of intimidation, media trial or political pressure will distract it from its ambition of defeating the APC in Kebbi State.

Courtroom Becomes Campaign Ground

The party further defended Malami’s personal record, arguing that investigators failed to properly consider his financial background before he became Attorney-General of the Federation. ADC leaders expressed confidence that higher courts would eventually clear him and maintained that party members remain united behind their governorship candidate despite his legal challenges.

Meanwhile, anti-corruption authorities have consistently maintained that prosecutions are based on evidence rather than political calculations, stressing that no individual is above the law. As Nigerians continue to follow the courtroom proceedings, many observers note that every election cycle increasingly features legal battles almost as prominently as campaign rallies, leaving voters wondering whether ballot papers or court documents will dominate political headlines first.

For now, the allegations and counter-allegations remain part of an ongoing legal process, with the courts expected to determine the merits of the case. The ADC continues to insist that the prosecution is politically motivated, while anti-graft agencies maintain that the investigation follows established legal procedures. OGM News NG will continue monitoring developments as the legal proceedings and political reactions unfold ahead of the 2027 general elections.
