Former Inspector-General of Police Mohammed Abubakar-Adamu has rejected the outcome of the All Progressives Congress governorship primary election in Nasarawa State, alleging widespread irregularities, manipulation, and lack of transparency in the conduct of the exercise. The former police chief challenged the emergence of Senator Ahmed Aliyu Wadada as the party’s governorship candidate for the 2027 election.
Speaking after the declaration of results in Lafia, Adamu claimed the process did not reflect the will of genuine APC members and stakeholders across the state. He further alleged that election materials and result sheets were manipulated in several locations where voting allegedly did not take place.
Mohammed Abubakar-Adamu and Allegations of Irregularities
Abubakar-Adamu argued that the APC governorship primary in Nasarawa was heavily compromised and failed to meet acceptable standards of transparency and accountability.
According to him, some officials allegedly collaborated with political interests to alter the outcome of the exercise in favour of Senator Ahmed Aliyu Wadada. Adamu maintained that in areas where voting genuinely occurred and ballots were counted properly, he performed strongly.
The former IGP also appealed to the national leadership of the APC to investigate the alleged irregularities and ensure justice within the party’s internal process.
Reports indicate that Wadada was officially declared winner of the primary after polling 195,285 votes, while Adamu secured 39,675 votes.
APC Internal Tensions and Political Implications
The dispute surrounding the Nasarawa APC governorship primary reflects broader concerns about internal party democracy and candidate selection processes ahead of the 2027 elections.
Political observers note that tensions had already been building before the primary, with allegations of attempts to influence the process in favour of preferred candidates. Earlier reports suggested that Adamu had previously raised concerns about possible manipulation of the exercise.
The controversy has also revived memories of earlier APC disputes in Nasarawa involving delegate lists, consensus arrangements, and legal battles over party primaries.
Meanwhile, Adamu has reportedly hinted that he could consider contesting under another political platform if his complaints are ignored by the APC leadership.
For now, the disagreement between Mohammed Abubakar-Adamu and the APC over the Nasarawa governorship primary has added another layer of uncertainty to the political landscape ahead of the 2027 election cycle.
