COAS :Integrated Administrative Protocols Seen as Key to Enhancing Troops’ Welfare — Army Dismisses Claims of Poor Remuneration

The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Waidi, has emphasised that the adoption of integrated administrative protocols remains central to improving the welfare, efficiency, and overall effectiveness of Nigerian Army personnel. This position comes amid recent public claims alleging poor remuneration within the ranks—claims the Army has firmly denied, describing them as inaccurate and misleading.

COAS Strengthening Welfare Through Administrative Reforms

The Army leadership has reiterated its commitment to prioritising the welfare of troops through structured and well-coordinated administrative systems. According to the COAS, integrated protocols are designed to streamline personnel management, ensure timely delivery of entitlements, and enhance operational readiness across formations.
He explained that welfare in the modern military context goes beyond salaries, encompassing healthcare, housing, training opportunities, and family support systems. By harmonising administrative processes, the Army aims to eliminate bureaucratic bottlenecks that often delay benefits and reduce morale among personnel.

Furthermore, the COAS noted that ongoing reforms are part of a broader institutional strategy to align the Nigerian Army with global best practices. These measures, he said, are already yielding positive results, particularly in improving transparency and accountability in welfare administration.

Army Refutes Allegations of Poor Remuneration

Responding to allegations made by an individual identified as Olamilekan regarding inadequate pay for soldiers, the COAS issued a strong rebuttal, insisting that the claims do not reflect the current realities within the force. Military authorities maintained that remuneration packages have been reviewed periodically in line with federal government policies.

Officials stressed that soldiers receive not only their salaries but also a range of allowances and benefits tailored to the demands of military service. These include operational allowances, housing support, and other incentives aimed at cushioning the challenges associated with deployment and national security duties.

The COAS also cautioned against the spread of unverified information, warning that such narratives could undermine public confidence and negatively impact troop morale. It urged stakeholders and the public to rely on official communication channels for accurate information regarding military welfare.

Commitment to Continuous Improvement

Despite dismissing the allegations, the Army acknowledged that welfare remains a dynamic area requiring constant evaluation and improvement. The COAS assured that feedback mechanisms are in place to capture concerns from personnel and address them promptly.

He emphasised that leadership remains open to constructive criticism and is committed to refining policies where necessary to better serve the needs of troops. This includes leveraging technology to improve administrative efficiency and ensuring that welfare initiatives are both sustainable and impactful.

The COAS reaffirmed its dedication to maintaining a motivated and well-supported force, noting that troop welfare is indispensable to national security and operational success.
