The 2027 presidential race has received another dose of political drama after Hakeem Baba-Ahmed ,the national chairman of Peoples Redemption Party (PRP),declared that President Bola Tinubu would lose the election before 4pm if the exercise is genuinely free, fair and credible. Baba-Ahmed made the striking prediction during a television interview, effectively turning the election into a political race against the clock.
A Political Stopwatch Has Been Started
According to the statement provided to OGM News NG, Baba-Ahmed said he could not confidently place Tinubu’s defeat before noon but was willing to bet on it happening before 4pm. In normal political language, that is a prediction; in Nigerian political language, it sounds almost like somebody has already checked the election timetable and started setting an alarm clock.
Baba-Ahmed is not speaking from outside the political arena. INEC currently lists him as the National Chairman of the PRP, following the party’s March 2026 convention. The PRP has also positioned itself for the 2027 contest and announced Donald Duke as its presidential candidate, giving Baba-Ahmed’s comments added political weight.
The Real Test Will Be the Ballot Box
The bigger issue behind the prediction is the condition attached to it: free, fair and credible elections. INEC has publicly assured Nigerians that it is working towards credible, transparent and inclusive elections in 2027, while acknowledging lessons from the technical difficulties experienced during the 2023 election.
That means Baba-Ahmed’s 4pm forecast is ultimately a political claim, not an established election result. President Tinubu remains in office and will have to face the verdict of voters if he contests and is on the ballot. The 2027 election will therefore test not only the strength of political parties and candidates, but also whether Nigerians believe the electoral process can deliver a result that commands public confidence.
For now, Baba-Ahmed has supplied the prediction, while the voters are yet to supply the verdict. If his forecast survives the long journey to election day, 4pm could suddenly become one of the most quoted times in Nigeria’s 2027 political history. OGM News NG will continue to watch the political temperature, the electoral preparations and the reactions to this bold claim as the race develops.
