BIMBO AKINTOLA REVEALS THE YEARS OF STRUGGLE BEHIND FUNKE AKINDELE’S SUCCESS

BIMBO AKINTOLA REVEALS THE YEARS OF STRUGGLE BEHIND FUNKE AKINDELE’S SUCCESS

Nollywood veteran actress Bimbo Akintola has reminded aspiring actors that the success they admire in Funke Akindele today came after years of hard work, rejection and persistence. According to Akintola, the celebrated filmmaker did not become a household name overnight, despite how quickly some people may assume her success happened.

Speaking at a masterclass hosted by actor and filmmaker Femi Adebayo, Akintola recalled seeing Funke on movie sets for years without receiving the recognition she deserved. She explained that many young entertainers want to achieve the same level of success but have little understanding of the struggles that came before the fame.

BEFORE JENIFA, THERE WERE YEARS OF STRUGGLE

Akintola revealed that Funke initially worked in the English-language film industry but struggled to get opportunities that would allow her talent to shine. She recalled that despite being present on movie sets for years, nobody seemed willing to give her the breakthrough opportunity she needed.

However, the actress identified persistence as one of Funke’s greatest strengths, explaining that she refused to give up. Funke eventually moved into the Yoruba film industry, where she expanded her work as an actress and producer before releasing Jenifa, the project that transformed her career and made her widely recognised.

ASPIRING ACTORS NEED TO UNDERSTAND THE JOURNEY

Akintola’s message was directed at young entertainers who admire Funke’s achievements and want to replicate her success. She warned that looking at someone’s present achievements without understanding their past struggles can create unrealistic expectations about how quickly success should come.

Her account also highlights an important reality about the entertainment industry: talent alone may not guarantee immediate recognition. Patience, consistency, resilience and the willingness to keep working through difficult periods can all play important roles in building a lasting career.

Perhaps aspiring actors should study the years behind the spotlight instead of focusing only on the fame, money and glamorous lifestyle they see today. Funke Akindele’s journey, as recalled by Bimbo Akintola, is a reminder that today’s celebrated superstar was once an actress waiting for her opportunity to shine.
