Burnley Turn Turf Moor Into a Haunted House as Wolves Deliver Another Home-Game Horror Story!

Burnley supporters may soon need more than scarves, match tickets and optimism to survive another evening at Turf Moor. Their team’s lengthy wait for a home league victory is about to reach the one-year mark after injury-hit Wolverhampton Wanderers came from behind to inflict a painful 2–1 defeat on the Clarets on Friday night. Jamie Vardy gave Burnley the lead, but Fer López equalised before substitute Tawanda Chirewa struck the winner, leaving the home crowd with another bitter reminder that taking the lead and actually winning a match are two very different footballing skills.

The result means Burnley’s last home league victory remains their 2–0 win over Leeds United on 18 October 2025. By the time the Clarets return to Turf Moor for their next home fixture on 31 October, an entire calendar year will have passed without a league victory on their own ground. According to Sky Sports, Burnley’s run has reached 21 league games without a home win, making it the longest such sequence across England’s top four divisions. For a club hoping to rebuild confidence and climb the Championship table, that is less a home advantage and more a season-long invitation for visiting teams to dream.

Wolves Come From Behind as Burnley’s Defensive Gifts Keep Giving

Burnley initially appeared determined to end their miserable run. The Clarets started brightly, created opportunities and took the lead through veteran striker Jamie Vardy in the 20th minute. It was Vardy’s first goal for the club since his arrival, providing the home supporters with a rare moment of celebration and the hopeful thought that this might finally be the evening their suffering would end. Unfortunately, Burnley’s defence soon decided that the occasion required a plot twist.

Wolves, despite their own difficult week and injury concerns, refused to accept defeat. Fer López punished a costly mistake by Kyle Walker to equalise in the 39th minute, before the visitors took control after the break. In the 72nd minute, Mateus Mané capitalised on another defensive error by Igor Julio and set up Chirewa, who had only just entered the match, to score the winner. Chirewa’s goal arrived almost immediately after his introduction, giving Wolves three points while leaving Burnley to wonder whether their defenders were competing for the opposition’s man-of-the-match award.

Turf Moor’s Winless Curse Becomes a Year-Long Problem

The most troubling aspect of Burnley’s predicament is that this was not simply a case of being completely outplayed. The Clarets had promising spells, scored first and threatened to take control, but individual errors once again undermined their efforts. Against Wolves, the difference between a potentially confidence-restoring victory and another painful defeat came down to mistakes at crucial moments. Manager Nicky Hayen now faces the challenge of restoring defensive discipline while convincing his players that a home match should not automatically feel like a test of psychological endurance.

For Wolves, the comeback offered welcome relief after consecutive defeats against Middlesbrough and Bolton Wanderers. César Peixoto’s side made several changes amid a demanding run of fixtures and personnel concerns, yet still found the determination to recover from a losing position. The victory lifted Wolves to sixth in the Championship table, while Burnley remained 21st. There is a cruel irony in the outcome: a Wolves side battling its own difficulties travelled to Turf Moor and left with exactly what Burnley desperately needed — a win.

Burnley’s home drought has now become a major test of character, management and defensive reliability. Vardy’s opening goal offered hope, but familiar mistakes ensured that hope lasted only until the final whistle approached. With the one-year anniversary of their last home league victory arriving on 18 October, the Clarets must find a way to turn promising performances into points before their supporters begin treating every home fixture as another episode in an endless football horror series. OGM News FC will continue following the story, because the next question is no longer simply when Burnley will win at Turf Moor again, but how much longer this extraordinary run can continue.
