Singer Johnny Drille has revealed the surprisingly romantic role Mavin Records played in his journey to marriage, saying he might still be single if not for the record label. The singer disclosed that his relationship with his wife, Rima Tahini, remained secret for almost five years, turning what looked like an ordinary music-industry connection into a remarkably well-protected love story.
Johnny Drille’s revelation is particularly amusing because Mavin Records did not merely provide him with a professional platform—it appears to have provided the singer with his “best part” as well. Drille met Tahini after joining Mavin, where she worked as an A&R executive. The couple began dating in late 2018 and kept their relationship away from the public until 2023.
Mavin Records Became More Than a Workplace for Johnny Drille
Johnny Drille joined Mavin Records in 2017, establishing himself as one of Nigeria’s prominent alternative and folk music voices. The label’s own profile describes his signing as part of its expansion into African alternative music, while Drille’s career subsequently produced popular releases and his signature romantic songwriting style.
Behind the scenes, however, another story was developing. Drille and Rima Tahini reportedly began dating in November or December 2018, but the relationship remained so private that fans were largely unaware of it. By the time the public learned about their marriage in July 2023, the couple had already been married for more than a year.
Five Years of Secrecy Before the Big Reveal
The secrecy was eventually broken when Don Jazzy publicly celebrated Johnny Drille and Rima’s marriage in July 2023. Drille subsequently confirmed the union through his music and social-media posts, while revealing that Rima was not simply his wife but also his first girlfriend. He had previously explained that they met in 2018 and that he quickly became convinced she was the woman he wanted to marry.
The couple married privately on January 5, 2022, and later welcomed their daughter in November 2023. In January 2024, Drille celebrated both their second wedding anniversary and five years together, describing the period as the happiest five years of his life.
So, in the unofficial comedy version of the story, Mavin Records may now have to add “relationship department” to its list of services. Johnny Drille says he could probably still be single without the label, while the five-year secret proves that the same workplace that helped build his music career also became the setting for one of his biggest personal milestones. OGM News NG will continue watching for more revelations from Johnny Drille about the love story that stayed hidden for nearly half a decade.
