Dino Melaye has fired another political warning shot ahead of Nigeria’s 2027 presidential election, telling President Bola Tinubu and members of his family to start packing their luggage from the Presidential Villa. The African Democratic Congress (ADC) chieftain made the remark during an interview on Arise TV, arguing that dissatisfaction with the Tinubu administration could translate into a change of government at the polls.
Melaye Predicts an Aso Rock Change of Address
Melaye’s latest declaration fits into his broader campaign against the Tinubu administration. He has previously said the ADC would produce a candidate capable of unseating President Tinubu in 2027, while more recently arguing that the opposition has accumulated enough political strength to challenge the ruling All Progressives Congress.
In the latest interview, Melaye pointed to hunger, insecurity, alleged corruption and what he described as a disconnect between government and citizens. He also argued that the coming election would provide voters with an opportunity to express their verdict. In classic Nigerian political fashion, the message appears to have arrived with both a warning and a metaphorical moving van attached: according to Melaye, the Villa’s residents should prepare their luggage before voters potentially prepare their ballots.
The 2027 Battle Is Already Producing Political Luggage
The opposition’s confidence comes as Nigeria’s political parties intensify preparations for the 2027 contest. Melaye has been an outspoken figure in the ADC’s efforts to build a stronger opposition platform, and he has highlighted alliances involving major opposition politicians as evidence that the race could become a serious challenge to the APC.
Meanwhile, the ruling camp has continued positioning itself for 2027, with President Tinubu’s political machinery already attracting scrutiny from opposition figures. Melaye recently questioned the involvement of Nigerian Revenue Service Chairman Zacch Adedeji in Tinubu’s campaign structure and threatened legal action over the matter. In other words, the political suitcase may have been opened early, but nobody has yet proved who will ultimately carry it out of Aso Rock.
For now, Melaye’s prediction remains a political claim rather than an election result, because Nigerians will have the final say when the votes are cast. Whether Tinubu and his family actually need to pack their luggage, unpack campaign materials for another term, or simply ignore the noise until election day remains a question for 2027.
