Lagos Installs New Onise of Ise Kingdom as Royal Stool Comes With One Very Serious Assignment

The Lagos State Government has formally installed Prince Ibrahim Adebowale Saliu as the new Onise of Ise Kingdom in Ibeju-Lekki, presenting him with the Staff of Office and Instrument of Appointment on Friday, August 21, 2026. The ceremony formally marked the beginning of his reign following the death of the late Oba Ganiu Adebowale Adegbesan.

New Onise Of Ise Kingdom Receives Staff and a Royal To-Do List

Representing Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, Special Adviser on Rural Development Dr. Nurudeen Yekinni Agbaje urged the new monarch to make peace, unity and inclusive development the foundation of his reign. He specifically encouraged Oba Saliu to extend a hand of fellowship to members of the royal families and work for reconciliation and collective progress.

In other words, the new king has apparently received more than a ceremonial staff. He has also received what could be described as a royal assignment sheet: unite the family, calm the community and make everybody remember that a palace is supposed to produce leadership, not endless family meetings. The state government said the traditional institution remains important to grassroots harmony and development.

Onise Of Ise Kingdom Crowned Into History and Into a Complicated Chapter

The installation comes after a succession process that had already attracted public attention. In July, Ise kingmakers and community leaders reaffirmed Saliu as their preferred Oba-elect, saying the kingmakers had voted for him after candidates were submitted by the Okuoye Ruling House.

However, the royal story has also had a legal subplot. A Lagos High Court interim order reported in August restrained the state government and other respondents from taking further steps toward recognising or installing Saliu, following a challenge to aspects of the selection process. The development makes the government’s subsequent formal presentation of the Staff of Office particularly significant and means the succession story may still deserve close attention as legal and community developments unfold.

For now, Oba Ibrahim Adebowale Saliu has officially begun his reign, with Lagos State urging him to turn reconciliation, cooperation and unity into more than ceremonial palace vocabulary. Whether the new Onise can successfully unite the royal family and community will be one of the most closely watched chapters of his reign, so readers should stay with OGM News NG for further updates as the Ise Kingdom story develops.
